My wifes car was broken into last night about about 8:00 pm. They got her cell phone, Alpine stereo and keys to the house, mailbox and my truck. I removed the batteries from my truck and as I was re-keying the front door, our power went out. I thought, WTF, they came back to break in! I flew down the hall in the dark, grabbed a handgun and ran outside. The power was out everywhere. 😱 The neighbor must have thought I was strange standing out there with a gun.
Later I went to get on my PC which was running when the power went out. It had rebooted and was stuck at the loading windows screen. The power outage and possible surge on restart fired the controllers on the mobo or my hdd. I have 2 Raptors in RAID 0. At least I have a recent back up.
I hope APC makes good on their UPS warranty.
I now return you to your regularly scheduled programmig.

APC will make good on the warranty for at least the UPS itself. Not sure how you'll make out with the equipment though. The last time we had power problems it friend my UPS but the computer was unharmed.

Which is what the OP *thought* was happening. It would be what I would be thinking too if someone broke into my car and then later, my power went out.

The theft had already taken place when the power went off. Since they had the keys to the house, the first thing that came to my mind was there were back to rob us. (Otherwise, why take the keys?) The gun was for protection. If they were there to rob, it is safe to assume they are armed. I wouldn't shoot at somone unless they were threating us with physical harm. Then I wouldn't hesitate. If they were there and not armed, it might be possible to hold them at gun point while the police come.
