I'm just curious...how would you feel if he was singing an islamic prayer? How about if he was singing one of the rig vedhas? Would you be quite so insistent that he be able to preach his faith as he chooses?

I wish you good luck on your journey, and no ill will. I do not begrudge you your beliefs. As I've stated several times already in this thread: every man is entitled to believe whatever he wishes. That is the beauty of free will. I just happen to believe that my free will is a gift from G-d and I am thankful for it (not to imply that you're not thankful for your free will).
I'm gonna watch some anime and then go to bed. I've got to get up early for a flight tomorrow morning so I can't spend all night on ATOT :)

Bah...it's early yet...well...post from the plane then ;)

Have a safe flight.

You're right, that wasn't my last post :) Just thought I'd check in while I was finishing up some laundry. Oh, and I can't post from the plane if I'm the one flying it ;)

You fly? Cool. Worked with a few guys that did (earlier this year when I did a stint at car sales). Considering my past driving record (well...longer than 5 yrs ago), it's not wise for me to do so! :D

Yeah, I'm a flight student @ Spartan School of Aeronautics (for those of you that have heard of it). I've got quite a long day tomorrow, not even sure why I'm still up... Gotta wake up at 6 am for my flight, then class immediately after that, then I go straight to work until 10 pm :( Loooooong day... I should probably go to bed now that the laundry's done...

My boss just called me; says he can't do lunch today, he's got stuff to do. :Q

*thinking of earlier*

I don't think I said anything...maybe he's browsing this thread.

Nopers, they kicked out all the towel-heads after 9/11. Security procedures have been stepped-up drastically. You can't even step foot on the flight campus without a school-issued photo ID visible above your waist at all times.

For someone who's such a big fan of tolerance you're not very tolerant of my beliefs. Yes, I do believe it is a sin to use the name of the L-rd (any of them) in vain (i.e. in association with anything worldly). I, like many Christians and Jews, omit the vowels from the names of the L-rd so as not to associate His holy name with anything unholy. As far as the whole "kicking out the towel-heads" thing goes, I am a student at my school - not a staff member. I had no say in the matter and came here long after they made that decision. Also, I doubt there are many here who would disagree with this move. After all, it wasn't the Amish or the Puerto Ricans that hijacked planes and crashed them into buildings on 9/11 - it was a group of Muslim extremists. Oh, and just for the record - my school (the flight campus anyway) has more Asian students than American students because of a huge contract with the Chinese government.

Ok, I really am going to sleep now. Tired is no way to fly.

Here is something to try.
Have a friend come in from out of town, pay someone, bribe someone, whatever.
Have this person sit down in the place you're eating at. when your boss finishes his song, have this person get up and state loudly how they like jesus as much as the next person but don't want to hear your boss singing about it while he's trying to eat. They don't need to say this but it should be something that shows the sentiment of the other diners. Don't let your boss get into an argument with the person. The person should throw the money down on the table for their food and walk out. I suppose it can't hurt for the person to say they won't be back while your boss keeps his singing up.

It works well in that you didn't have to start it, and your boss may ask you for your opinion and you can politely suggest it may be better for him to go back to his quiet prayer.

It has it's problems too.
1) While it's unlikely, your boss may choose to ignore the person. If the person has not caught the sentiment of the diners then you wasted your time. If the person did catch the sentiment of the diners, the diners will eventually do the rest for you.
2) If your boss ever finds out you put this person up to it at the very least your boss will make your life a living hell.

Things like this are awfully elaborate to solve the problem. Have you considered just talking to him? Maybe point out that his singing is disturbing the other diners in ways that he doesn't want to disturb them.

after he prays, look into a mirror and start bowing to it, then chant:

"Satan, Satan, Satan! Lord Satan, thank you for death, and despair, and plagues, and all that bad stuff that happens to people. SATAN! SATAN! SAAATAAAAN! SAAAATAAAAAAAN!"

Yeah that's what you did when you called muslims "towelheads". Did you not realize that is a derogatory name?

And if you think God gives a flip whether you type G-d or God then I feel sorry for you. They both MEAN the same thing and that is all that matters.

Oh, so you're saying you have proof that God exists?

WOW!

Do tell!!

rolleye.gif

Hmm.......can you prove he doesn't exist? :)

I knew it!

Typical response...prove something DOESN'T exist for something you can't prove does!

What's the role of science? To prove why things happen or that things exist or to rule out possibilities.

God was created by man as a concept to answer the unknown. Why do you think we have the Greek/Roman Titans/Gods? Or Native American Gods/Spirits?

The creation of Gods/supernatural beings arose out of ignorance of how the world works (why the sun rises/falls, why does it rain, etc.) Where did we come from? Uhh...must be some omnipotent being that had nothing better to do after having sat all alone for billions of years.

rolleye.gif

The most important scientific principle is that if one cannot prove something exists or does not exist (is true is not true), they must accept both possibilities. Anything that cannot be proven by science must be taken on faith. What one man believes to be absolute truth may be absolute untruth to another man. Truth is relative.
Here is the famous example which proves this principle: There is a cat in a sealed box. There is absolutely no way of determining whether the cat is alive or dead. Which is it? If you have no way of proving either possibility how can you deny one and accept another except on faith?
Schrödinger is turning in his grave right now.

But is his cat?

Seriously MD, take him aside and tell him you believe he has a right to his beliefs, but singing in a restaurant for any reason makes you feel uncomfortable as you do not like public attention. If you approach him matter of factly, he probably will not do this to you again.

> Schrödinger is turning in his grave right now.

Or is he? We can't know until we open the box. Theoretically, he's simultaenously turning and not-turning, right?

As far as the "towelheads" comment goes I suppose that was out of line but in my own head I associated the anger over 9/11 with extremist Muslims and took a cheap shot at Muslims in general. I'm not the first to do this, nor will I be the last.
Onto your assessment of my beliefs: gee, thanks. I'll keep that in mind. I really think you may be onto something there, what with you being able to discern the mind of G-d and all... You must be some kind of super genius! How do you know what G-d thinks about this subject? It's obviously not Biblically-based, and the Bible is the word of G-d so unless G-d told you otherwise (thus contradicting Himself which is impossible) I'm gonna go out on a limb here and say you don't know what you're talking about. Go do some study of the Bible and then come back and debate me. Until then, I think I'll trust the word of the L-rd over what some random intarnet 1337 haxor on a message board has to say.
