Jesus Christ

Lately I've been taking some pills which my mom suggested to me for my insomnia. This would be called Amitriptyline. I just now decided to look it up and this is what I found. Depression? Side Effect : Insomnia? What the hell am I taking?

I notice that drowsiness is also listed not once but twice as a side effect & since most anti-depressants do case drowsiness my guess is that its a more common side effect then insomnia ... diazapam (Valium) for example is an anti-depressant & is often prescribed for short-term relief of insomnia.

I would however suggest that you stop taking moms pills & go to a doctor yourself if your having that much trouble sleeping... modern day sleep aids like Ambien while far from perfect, are a big improvement over any of the older treatments.

Heh. It reminds me of those nausea medications with the possible side effect of nausea or sleeping medications with drowsiness listed as a side effect.

It's their way of saying "This POS might not even work!"

just because it's a side effect doesn't mean it will happen.

It 'causing' insomnia is probably because someone with insomnia was taking it, and it wasn't working... thus insomnia.

kind of like that teenager taking effexor (an anti depressent) that killed herself. OMG effexer causes suicide. The girl was taking it because she was suicidal... it didn't work.. and she offed herself.

Weird, MY Mom gave ME some pills to help me sleep and same story.

I looked them up and (Depression / insomnia), I stopped taking them.
