Buy some other board, who is telling you that is the best board? I want their phone number.

It is one of the best VALUE boards. When you can get that board plus a A64 2800+ for $206. That's a pretty damn good deal. It's a pretty good overclocker board, I have a co-worker with a 2800+ running at 2502 MHz on that board. So it can handle high FSBs pretty well (9x278). The heatsink on the chipset is very low, you won't have a problem with the GT.

I mean sure a DFI LANParty UT is a better S754 board, but when you have to pay double, you have to think if you really need the features of a board like that. The Chaintech is definitely the best S754 board under $100, in my mind anyway.

ALL of the nForce3 boards have the chipset chip in the same place if you look at the pictures of other nForce3 boards.

My first mobo choice is the ASUS K8V-X( K8v model without raid option),and the asus model seem to have more room for my card.

Im just hesitating to choose between the asus model and the chaintech one.No i am not an overclocker, and will never do that,so im just looking for the most stable, and affordable, motherboard

It's a tough call. Asus is the better motherboard manufacturer (arguably they are the best in the world), but that board uses the VIA chipset. I personally much prefer the nVidia nForce chipsets due to their drivers. I've had nothing but problems with VIA-based systems. Even on my uncle's new rig based on that same chipset, I encountered a random crash that according to XP was related to the VIA driver.

If I were buying an A64 board, I would go for the most reasonably priced NF3-250 based board so long as the manufacturer was reputable.

My ZNF is fine with 6800 and x800, but the ati silencer doesn't allow the agp clip to make "snap". It seats properly with no exposed contacts, and it operates fine however.

Actually I just discovered the Asus K8N and it looks very nice. I think I would go with that. It's only $125CDN in stores here in Toronto.

If the chaintech does all that you need then it's a good choice, but it's pretty limited feature-wise. I've also heard of some BIOS shortcomings.

I have the Chaintech VNF3-250, and I'm very satisfied with it, I had no problems building my first computer with it. If you don't need gigabit ethernet, firewire, or an on-chip firewall then its great.

As for BIOS, there were only two things I heard that were wrong with it. First, it didn't properly show the CPU temp in BIOS, I ran the BIOS update from Windows and it fixed that. Second there was some overclocking limitiation thing that I'm pretty sure they have a fix for, but that wouldn't matter to you anyway.

So moving onto the original subject, I have an eVGA 6800GT and it fits in the VNF3-250 without a problem. There are several inches of space on the end, it gets a little close to the PCI slot and the heatsink, but I had no trouble installing at all.

Some pictures (sorry they are really crappy quality, I had to brighten a lot).

You can see where the card ends in the first picture by looking at the molex connector (since its a bit blurry)

Edit: There might be some dual slot cards that won't fit or something, this is just for the eVGA card.

THANKS ATH50, you showed me what i wanted to see!!!.But still atm i think i will go with ASUS K8N(if i can find it lol), since it got nforce 3 too BUT better support than chaintech.I have atm a asus mobo and i dont have problems, so i guess ill trust this brand again and get this K8N

And yeah the shot you show me show exactly what i was thinking, the 6800gt is larger than the mobo and as i can see, it pass over the mobo( i was affraid it would block in a way).

In case i really cannot find this motherboard( the k8n), then ill get the chaintech one.I dont think that either one would be a bad choice.

You'll probably be happy either way. Just get whatever you feel like.

Btw, not to underwrite the chaintech support too much...I thought I had a problem with my motherboard (which I fixed on my own) last month and I sent an e-mail to the chaintech support and got a response within a day, so thats not too bad.

And I've heard for asus in general that their support isn't too great, but their products are good enough that you shouldn't need it.

Edit: And yeah the Chaintech board is a little undersize, so it just sticks out. Assuming you have a normal size case its no problem.

The store is called "Filtech Computer" (notice the lack of an "s"). :)

I'm sure if you shop around in Montreal you'll be able to find one. I'm not sure what the difference between the regular one and the deluxe model is, aside from the price.

Difference between deluxe and non deluxe:

6 SATA port vs 2 SATA port( anyway i dont use any sata port atm haha)
DUal raid vs no raid on non-deluxe(im not in raid atm)
Gigabit lan vs regular lan
ieee 1394 ports( dunno what is that anyway lol) on deluxe
some more bios option on deluxe
COM connector on deluxe.

Yes you get more for your buck with the deluxe version, but since i dont and will probably will never use all those feature, ill get the non-deluxe version!...if i can find it haha

Here in montreal, its very hard to get the pieces you want....at affordable price.I had to order my xfx geforce 6800gt from ottawa, all store in mtl were advertising it, but non were having it in stock.

Ill check the store you link, thanks for for info, btw is this place good to order from? Im not 100% sure to order a mobo from outside montreal( IF..there is a problem...can be a pain to replace)

The store is the best I've found in Toronto for both price and service. I have returned things to them before without issue. A friend of mine bought something there, bought it, realized it didn't have the features he expected, and they took it back without issue.

As for ordering from them and shipping it...I would personally just hunt one down in Montreal. I would even rather buy the deluxe version than pay the shipping and have to wait for it to show up. :)

*Edit* Why don't you just find a reputable store and get them to order one in for you?

Yeah will start hunting in montreal. But not ready to add $50 dollars more for some extra feature i wont use.I ratehr save that $50 buck and get my NIKAO JETMASTER SILVER CASE!!!! :)

REPUTABLE STORE NEAR ME:Hmmm Futureshop. The dont know anything about PC
Microbytes:Return policies not bad, but service is horrible.Have a friend who bought a x800pro from em, its defective, and now over 2 month he is waiting for his card to return.
and after that....hmmm there is nothing!!!!!You have about 50 little shops that advertise stufff and have nothing in store.

Im telling you it suck living here in montreal when u want the latest pieces of technology lol

Hmmm...well my uncle just bought an A64 system in Montreal not long ago; he lives in Pointe Claire. He seemed very happy with the store where he bought the system. Next time I hear from them I'll find out what the store is called (it'll probably be too late by then though).

Here in Toronto stock is a problem too, but if you go down to Spadina Avenue in Chinatown you can find just about anything related to a computer that is in existence **in stock**. :)

I'm sure there's gotta be a "computer district" in Montreal where there are 8 or 10 stores all competing with one another.

It WILL WORK. I have that exact same board(Chaintech VNF3-250) with an XGX Geforce 6800GT and there are no problems here. Nothing's in the way. The only problem you might have is case problems. In my full tower Antec PlusView1000AMG, it's already close to bumping my 3.5" drive cage.

Anyway, this IS one of the best boards, value or otherwise. For its price, it simply can't be beat. Why else would Anand give it a Silver Editors Choice in their Gen 2 S754 roundup?
