Tommorow my 300gb maxtor PATA 16mb cache hd will be here.
On top of that i already have a 120gb Maxtor 2mb cache, and 40gb 7200rpm drives. What should i do with all this space? How should i setup my computer? Imaging, etc. Anything cool i can do with all of the space?

PR0N!!!

Seriously, I couldn't imagine using that much space unless you do alot of audio/video editing. If you watch alot of movies, you can burn them (legally, of course) to your hard drive and not have to worry about using the disks...

That's what HTPC enthusiasts do.. We got gigs of movies ready to stream off the hard disk so we don't have to change DVDs, which can be annoying for multi-volume movies like the Lord of the Rings. You can also do PVR/TiVO stuff (timeshift/pause live TV or digitally record programs) which requires significant hard disk space.

Put all three LOTR EE on the HD, combine them, take out the ending credit. Awesome. I don't like the load DVD movies and I hate DVD changers, so I rip the movies I want to watch and use the PC as the server. It's sweet.

I'd be able to fill 480gb of space no problem. Lots of camcorder video editing of 101 childhood recitals & concerts to burn on dvd for all the relatives. It takes up a lot of hard drive space, and then back up everything on a 2nd drive. ........ And lots of games of course.

Use it for back up. Never need them slow CD/ DVDs anymore.

I was running

240 GB 2* maxtor 120 gb sata Raid
120 GB 1* WD external back up
__________

360 GB

Then one of my maxtors died on me.
Bought a WD 250 gb for replacement As I could not rescue al my data to the 120 gb external drive. Then maxtor send me a new one so now I`m stuck with 610 gb (250+360).

It fills up easy;
25 gb mp3, 35 gb movies, 40 gb OS+ programs + 60 gb for games and p2p programs to be on + 10 gb digital foto`s + 10 gb for some ghost files to sit on makes 180gb in use. Then about 110 gb as back up on the external disc + 20 gb back up for my brother.

Therefore I need 310 gb at any given time.

$120 is nice btw. I paid ?139 for the 250 gb (ow, how would I love to live in the US)

Thats it only 480gb. I have a 400gb Seagate that I got from CrapUSA for 190.00 and all I have left is 15gb.

I probably need to get another one to raid it or something so that I have atleast 800gb. Can't never have enough space for me. I go thru gigs like it was water. I can easily fill a gig of drive space in 4 hours or less.

Check the hot deals forums for great deals. They always have good deals going on for hard drives, cdrw, dvd burners, etc....

I was going to ask the same thing...

I'd rather have gotten 4 100GB drives and put them in a RAID 10 setup. :D

Where did you get it for $120, I want one! Install all of your programs on it, then save all of your CD's as ISO images and Run Alcohol 52% so you will never have to pick up or insert a cd rom to start a program.

I have about 130 GB of data (non-video) stored on my computer.

No. You should always use opitcal media in conjuction with whatever else you use. Optical media can be stores elsewhere, so if something bad happens, or a surge messes your system you still have DVD-Rs of your info stored. That and in the long run it is cheaper.
