Ventura WAS NOT A SEAL.

He often does represent himself as a SEAL. Even in his public objections to Kyle's comments on the radio show (Ventura was not identified in the book) he called Kyle an "fellow SEAL."

Kyle's defence produced 6 SEAL's and 2 mothers of SEAL's who state that the incident did happen.

UDT's are simply not SEAL's. At the time that Ventura was a UDT the SEAL's existed, and Ventura never attempted the SEAL training. Although some UDT's would go onto be SEAL's, and after Ventura retired the UDT's were disbanded and successfully SEAL trained UDT's became SEAL's, Ventura never was a SEAL.

Lol epic fail

I guess if graduating BUDS, and serving on Seal team 12 in Vietnam doest not qualify you as a SEAL i dont know what will.

Chris Kyle wrote in his best-selling 2011 book, American Sniper, that he punched and knocked down a man for making disparaging comments about the war in Iraq. In the book that man was called "Scruff Face," but Kyle later said in interviews that the man he punched was Jesse Ventura.
So, basically, all of this hullabaloo was about an aging tough guy who was (allegedly) punched and then worried that the public might no longer perceive him as being a tough guy?

As soon as Kyle died, Ventura should have dropped the suit to avoid looking like a d-bag stealing money from a widow and her kid.

So, if you are suing someone and then they die, you should immediately drop the suit, despite the damage you are able to possible prove occurred?

Yeah, that makes sense. Maybe, Kyle shouldn't have been a d-bag that made up stories bragging about things he never did, including punching Jesse Ventura.

If you're just after the money, of course you shouldn't drop the suit.

But if you're goal is to restore your public reputation maybe that isn't the best way, since most people think he's slime now.

How come in this discussion, no one ever says that Kyle or his estate should have offered to retract the statement and offer an apology?

Takes two to tango and so far as I can tell the widow was totally unwilling to back down.

Are there no public records to verify what mr. Conspiracy Ventura says his service was?

Guys around here retire they are spending half a day at the copier, copying all their records.

I can't find the actual documents, but military.com and navyseals.com have him listed as having been a part of UDT team 12 and then later assigned to SEAL team 1.

Those records aren't public to my knowledge. And, the reason they are making 20 copies of their shit is because the military loses them. I've had 2 different bases lose my medical records, as well as quite a few records you'd think were important.

bullshit. His book is still making money. while ventura is a idiot he was right in the suit.

the family should have retracted it and apologized. that never happened.

I'm sorry, the first was militaryhub.com.

While, that isn't official, I was unable to find when SEAL training became a separate entity from UDT training, as the SEALs were established entirely of UDT members from the get go. The entire reason for them was because the military realized that the UDTs scope of operations was expanding outside of the water.

Ventura graduated BUD/S in 1970, which is still used by the SEALs, and I cannot find when the other training was introduced.

Basically, the author also according to the book punched a guy who was right about the Iraq war.... over in less than a year, oil will pay for it, Iraq will become a democracy that will bring about a sea change in the ME....

Sorry but the people who pushed for the invasion have a record of wrong predictions.

Seal team 12?

He was on UDT 11. There was no SEAL team 12. Mistype? The SEAL's from the time say he was never on a SEAL team. While he may have some tacit sanction to call himself a SEAL due to his UDT time and BUDs training, saying he was actually on a SEAL team really has no backing. If you went and read the article I posted written by a SEAL team commander from the time you might not find this to be "epic fail."

I guess that really should end that argument then eh?

Why should his widow apologize? Her husband is dead and she didn't write the book. Agreed Ventura is an idiot though.

He couldn't because Chris's wife agreed a movie deal for the book. The same lies would have been put forth in a movie, as well as being in the book.

I wonder if the movie will show him shooting civilians during katrina?

Big hoo-ee then you went through the training you got to be a Seal or UDT, now all are Seals with some as UDT. Am I getting that right, just a designation difference?
