Add Jesse Jackson’s ride to prominent vehicles being stripped in Detroit.
Following the embarrassing news that Mayor Dave Bing’s GMC Yukon was hijacked by criminals this week, Detroit’s Channel 7 reports that the Reverend’s Caddy Escalade SUV was stolen and stripped of its wheels while he was in town last weekend with the UAW’s militant President Bob King leading the “Jobs, Justice, and Peace” march promoting government-funded green jobs.
Read that again: Jackson’s Caddy SUV was stripped while he was in town promoting green jobs.

Add Jesse to the Al Gore-Tom Friedman-Barack Obama School of Environmental Hypocrisy. While preaching to Americans that they need to cram their families into hybrid Priuses to go shopping for compact fluorescent light bulbs to save the planet, they themselves continue to live large.
“We need an economy that creates employment that can't be shipped overseas,” the Green Rev wrote for CNN about the march. “Home-grown American labor will be installing windmills and solar panels. A green economy is not an abstract concept.”
Well, its certainly abstract to Jesse, but I digress.
“Even now, the only sector of the economy that has seen job growth during the recession is the green job sector. Time is of the essence.”
Actually, time long ago passed Detroit by because Jesse’ favored government mpg mandates and UAW wages stripped the Big Three’s ability to compete against non-union transplants. These jobs were real – unlike the artificial, government subsidized green jobs he shakes down the feds for today.
Real jobs produced big, profitable SUVs like the one Jesse prefers to ride in. His SUV has been stripped by thugs – a fitting metaphor for what Jesse and his pals have done to the auto industry for the last 35 years.

While the story is humorous the political ranting is pretty stupid.

Would they have preferred he drive a hybrid escalade? There's a reason why GM trucks (and not Toyota Priuses) are used for security details...

If anything it just proves how we need death penalty for repeat theives.

I had my Xbox 360 stolen a few weeks ago right out of my room on dorm move-in day (the roommate left the door unlocked for 5 minutes between trips to the car).

Why should people like that just get a slap on the wrist when they have no sympathy for the hard work it took people to get those things? Either take all their stuff and work them to near nothingness on road and building projects or get rid of them completely. We need to make the punishment more painful than the reward for stealing.

ah ah ah

Though, as much as I loathe Jesse Jackson, nobody deserves to be a victim of Detroit.

The political rant is one hundred percent wrong.
If the US had mandated fuel economy standards Detroit would have focused on smaller, more efficient suv's instead of huge, hulking behemoths.

but because gas was cheap and the economy was booming at the time, people wanted large trucks and SUVs. lots of them. and detroit supplied them. lots of them.

At least he got this part correct:
Home-grown American labor will be installing windmills and solar panels.
Not "home-grown American labor will be constructing windmills and solar panels." 8 out of the top 10 solar panel companies are in...

China. And, like it or not, it probably is the future for energy. Like it or not, you can run around with your thumb up your butt, pointing out prominent politicians telling us to go green, but those politicians aren't doing so themselves. And, you can use that as an excuse for the US to continue on its present path. That path leads toward falling behind most of the industrialized nations & being passed by some nations (China) just now becoming more industrialized.

p.w. I'm sure Jesse's thinking "it was probably white gang members who stripped my car, trying to make black gang members look bad."

Detroit is a shithole and needs to be destroyed. Scurapu and scurapu.

"Why da white man always tryin to keep a brutha down?"

The "brutha" keeps himself down by staying ignorant and making foolish choices. Everyone knows this.

LOL@ promoting green jobs while driving a 12MPG harbinger of waste.

I bet it really gets 8 MPG if it was armored up at all. e.g. bullet proof , bomb proof...

They do need to nuke that city. It has NOTHING redeeming anymore. I grew up in SE Mich, spent my childhood in Brightmoor, and watched as my entire neighborhood changed from a normal place to live into a crack-filled burned out hulk. The last time my brother went to find the house we spent our baby years - it was just a hole in the ground full of murky water and bodies. Then he was shot at.

They steal the boards off your house to board up there house. Again - nuke that city, just raze it and start over.

I rather not kill those scums but like in the Middle East, chop their hands off and put the T letter (for thief) in their foreheads.

<<--was a victim of home burglary.

I heard a story from someone trying to help stabilize detroit that the city had such a reduction in population that it was something like back to it's population of the '20s, like a 40% dip from its high. add to that that i wouldn't be surprised if the reduction in high income families is even higher and you are left with something just this side of a certified shithole. While I don't believe this guy had any public office position, he was saying that one of the things that probably needs to be done is to shrink the cities footprint by bringing in the city lines to reduce the #/acre(and resident) of required city services as a start.

Actually it is armored. Saw some kind of article on who uses armored vehicles and his name was there.
Seems he gets lots of death threats, and a couple of people were arrested planning his assassination about 10-12 years ago.

yup. It's a rather logical and reasonable argument, but it pisses a lot of people off.

You can understand the anger, though--it would essentially force some people to leave their homes if they want to remain within Detroit, or give up their homes to development for the re-structuring.

Present-day Detroit is basically like you starting a game of Sim City with $200k and over-expanding the city by 50-60%. Nothing ever develops b/c the population is spread out, far too much development for far too many people, resources spread way too thin (police, fire, education) little to no connection between neighborhoods. etc. and when you do that in Sim City, the residentials tend to develop into ghetto tiles.
:hmm:
