Are the rumors just that, rumors? Or has there been anything said on any fan sites, etc? I'm not a huge fan of modern wrestling, but I remember the good old days. :)

Federation releases Stacy Carter
Stacy Carter (The Kat) was released today by the World Wrestling Federation. Her husband, Jerry "The King" Lawler, also decided to leave the company under protest.

Damn that's pretty surprising...I mean, they wrote Kat and Lawler into the script pretty well leading up to No Way Out....and they both had roles in Monday's RAW....doesn't really make sense why they'd fire both of them. Since Smackdown is taped today, anyone know what they're going to do broadcast wise?

Tazz will easily fill Jerry Lawler's spot. But Tazz should be in the ring. WWF should hire Joey Styles to be commentator for Smackdown with someone else as color commentator.

Man I can't believe this. Being form memphis, I grew up watching Lawler. He is the greatest. WWF will not be the same without him. Just take "Puppies" for example. He made the crowds love that word.

Does anyone really see this making any sense from any direction?

Stacy, who has consistently struck me as so happy to be on TV that she'll do ANYTHING, decries an angle today that would probably have been planned out at least a month ago. The WWF just lets her go over the course of one evening with no fanfare, willingly losing their only established color commentator over a rather lame lower-midcard angle. It just seems stupid all around. Why would Stacy, who has to realize bonking Jerry is the only reason she HAS a job, refuse any angle that didn't involve her getting chokeslammed through a cage? Why would Vince or whoever be so stubborn over such a nothing angle? Why was less than a day allowed for this whole mess to transpire (seeing as how everything must have been okay on RAW)?

On the other hand:

1) The WWF seems to have evolved past worked shoots.

2) This leads to nothing obvious.

3) It was mentioned so low-key on WWF.com I can't imagine most fans who visit the site would even notice it.

<< Jerry was not a good wrestler, no doubt. >>

Uh..yeah, I take it you've never seen his AWA stuff?

And here's just ONE more piece of news that's of spoiler category, but it has nothing to do with match results or anything, just a dumb promo... so if you just can't possibly know ANYTHING about SD, then turn your heads and look away.

The RTC (minus Kat) comes to the ring. Val gets the stick and... the details I got weren't too clear, but I'm told this whole thing was really confusing... but Val talks about how he's done something that was horribly against what the RTC stands for and how ashamed he is that he was unable to resist temptation. As best I know, what Val did wasn't specifically mentioned, nor was the Kat and whether or not Val's trist involved her.

The RTC ended up hugging Val to forgive him and the APA ran out and kicked all their asses.

So maybe this is part of whatever angle saw the Lawler situation develop.

I didn't think they were gonna use Cole. He's not a color commentator. I thought they were gonna go with Taz.
Now that I think about it, it's gonna be harder than I realize to fit King's shoes. The guy was a really good commentator!

More long useless thoughts here..

From what's been going around the Net, Kat was fired due to conflicts over upcoming storylines with the RTC. Most likely, this means that they wanted her to turn on Jerry, she refused, so they fired her. I hate to say it, but she is extremely expendable. The only real asset that she brought was that she was hands down the most willing of the WWF women to strip. She certainly couldn't wrestle, couldn't cut a particularly convincing promo, and couldn't really act either. The WWF can hire a stripper anywhere, and from all reports Victoria (I forget her real name...Marie Lynn maybe) has been impressing people in MCW/OVW.

I strongly suspect that the WWF will make Jerry a very sweet offer to get him to return, possibly as early as Monday. If not, there's any number of people that they can bring in to do colour (Cyrus being the most notable/likely) and Michael Hayes is perfectly adequate to fill in until such a person comes in.

I'd like to say that this is shocking and will have deep ramifications, but it won't. The only possible drawback is that the WWF will sever it's ties in Memphis (fairly likely since they can't draw for crap there) and concentrate all it's efforts on OVW and UPW (in California). Lawler walked out on a contract meaning that he can't go to Nitro (unless he pulls a Sable and shows up in the crowd, which would burn any chance of his returning) and WCW is clearly not going to be bringing in females anytime soon. They're both pretty much screwed, but like I said, I'd put the over/under on Lawler's return being 2 weeks.

WWF should hire Joey Styles to be head commentator for Smackdown; I was thinking Cyrus would be a good choice too for color commentary.
