None of it's guaranteed, so don't hold your breath. I like Jerry Rice as much as the next guy, but 46 ain't going to happen.

he just signed a long deal to help the raiders with cap room. draw the contract up so that a smaller portion of it is paid in the first two years, with the last few years gradually going higher until it equals 30 mil.

This article explains how it works.

Go Jerry! At least he'll retire in the Bay Area!

I don't know that any player in the modern era has played out a 6 year contract. Either they retire first, or are cut for salary cap reasons. And there are no guaranteed contracts in the NFL.

Hehe...tell that to Darrell Green (ok, he did retire, but he didn't have to). At 40, he was still a force to be reckoned with on the Redskins.

hmmmmmmm......

George Blanda, Gordie Howe, Nolan Ryan, Jim Kaat - just a few examples.

It *could* be possible, Jerry does have a very strict conditioning regimen. But I also agree, I don't think he will play all 6.

I do believe that he will make every attempt to give as manyh quality years as possible, and let's face it, at 40, he's still able to put up some very good and productive numbers, which in itself is very difficult to do.

yeah...i'd say he is playing pretty well for being 40.

13th in the league in Rec Yards
9th in the league in Receptions
13th in the league in YPG
13th in the league in TDs.

Pretty good numbers if you ask me.

he's still a great player. if he keeps in shape he should be able to keep his numbers up for a few more years.

oh, and GO RAIDERS!

keep in mind that Eric has had about 128 more concussions than Jerry too. ;)

Of course Jerry keeps his head up...unlike Eric. :D

Don't forget about Brown .. He signed a similar contract ..

But seriously, look at jerry rice .. he does NOT play like he's 40 .. I'm sure he could easily play until he's 46.. At least I hope, he's one of my fav players in the nfl .. i'd like to see him break MORE records.. :)
