JEREMY LIN’S POST-SURGERY Q&A WITH HIS FANS

Jeremy Lin: Just woke up. Let’s do this Q&A before I get on my video games, LOL!

Angela: When I heard you would be out for six weeks, I just started crying, to be honest. I already miss you so much being on the court! Anyway, my question is what’s your biggest pet peeve? 🙂

Jeremy: My biggest pet peeve is ordering fast food and not being able to eat it until I get home, LOL. Especially when it smells so good and is just sitting there in the passenger seat.

Luis: What videogame are you going to play?

Jeremy: I’m gonna play Dota 2 with my brothers. Just got it installed the other day!

Kar Tse: You gonna be back for playoffs?

Jeremy: I hope I’ll be back for the playoffs! It’s killing me to watch the team without being able to play, but I need to make sure my knee is 100% before I get back on the court, so we will wait and see.

Deanna: Did you know my boyfriend loves you more than he loves me? LOL!

Jeremy: That’s not true! But please tell him thanks for the support. If he supports me hardcore, you know he’s a keeper, LOL. Just kidding!

Ryan: How do you stay so humble?

Jeremy: I struggle with pride every day, but the one thing that I try to remind myself is that I’m still a sinner, no matter how many points/assists/wins I get on the court. God’s grace and the death/resurrection of his son Jesus Christ has given me salvation, even though I’m not worthy of it.

Lila: What is your favorite book of the Bible? And verse?

Jeremy: I love Romans. Especially Romans 5:3-5, or all of Romans 8

Joy: Favorite Pokemon?

Jeremy: My favorite Pokemon growing up was Blastoise LOL. He’s a beast!

Adasand: Were you afraid of the surgery?

Jeremy: Yes, I’m deathly afraid of needles. Getting the IV in me earlier today was hard work for all the nurses, ha ha.

Justice: Can you come to Korea to chill?

Jeremy: I’m hoping to make it to Korea and Japan this summer for the first time ever. My best friend’s Korean, and his mom makes the most unbelievable Korean BBQ ever.

Christopher: What’s your favorite part of NYC?

Jeremy: My favorite part of NYC is the fans and playing at MSG. The energy that the fans give us is unreal, and unlike any other arena.

Sogreen: Hey! How many times has Landry beat you in Monopoly?

[Ed.: Jeremy and Landry Fields play iPad Monopoly against each other while on flights to visiting cities]

Jeremy: He beat me quite a few times…he always seems to get Boardwalk/Park place. I think the game cheats!

Ake: Do you have ill feelings toward those who pull you down? What would you want to tell them?

Jeremy: Nope, everyone gets their own opinion, and I respect that. I just want God to be happy with my effort and my heart, every time I step on the court!

Qing: What was your dream when you were a kid?

Jeremy: Playing in the NBA, which is what I’m doing right now. Such a blessing and a dream come true!

Franky: Can I dunk on you?

Jeremy: I dont plan on letting that happen, but if you wanna be a good sport like KevJumba I’d love to dunk on you, LOL.

Nishan: What’s your biggest fear in life?

Jeremy: Looking back and feeling like I wasted my life living for the wrong reasons. And also needles.

Nou: Ice cream or cake?

Jeremy: Ice cream. but my actual favorite is smoothies. I LOVE fruit smoothies with mango, pineapple or passion fruit.

Stacie: Do you have a favorite animal?

Jeremy: Dolphins and penguins. They are just awesome.

Kaolag: Sushi or steak?

Jeremy: That’s a tough question. Depends on the day, but my three favorite foods are sushi, steak and seafood

Apple: Do you like animals? Dogs or cats ?

Jeremy: Dogs all the way. When i was young, I saw a cat run into my backyard and rip my favorite Nerf ball in half, but I was too young/scared to chase the cat away.

Anthony: How long do you need to stay in the hospital?

Jeremy: I’m already back home!

Elaine: Orange juice or apple juice?

Jeremy: Apple juice, but my ultimate favorite is pineapple juice

Sherry: Gummy worms or Sour Patch Kids?

Jeremy: Sour Patch Kids. But my favorite candy of all time is refrigerated fruit snacks, or Haribo Coca-Cola gummies.

Zach: Are you related to Ryan Higa If so, are you guys close?

Jeremy: Not related to him, but he’s a good friend. Every time he texts me before a game, we win, hahah.

Jun: Do you like to fart continuously?

Jeremy: No. But some of my teammates do. I’m not gonna say who though…sorry, LOL.

Yan: Who is updating your Weibo?

[Ed.: Weibo is China's clone of Twitter]

Jeremy: Me, but I need help translating some of my updates into Chinese.

Stephen: How/when are you going to start rehabbing?

Jeremy: Rehab starts tomorrow. Lots of ice, stretching, muscle activation. Then, eventually, biking, swimming, running. Then finally, shooting, cutting and jumping.

To all the girlfriend questions: No, I dont have a girlfriend right now. To all the prom questions, I’m sorry I can’t go to any proms! I will still be rehabbing, practicing and at Knicks games, LOL.

Bill: Would you fight a tiger for an NBA championship?

Jeremy: No, because the tiger would kill me and I’d never get to the part about the NBA championship. I would fight a snail though.

Andy: Are you gonna shoot a video while you’re recovering?

Jeremy: Yes, there will be YouTube videos coming out while I’m injured. Let me know if you guys have any ideas!

Haysol: What car do you have?

Jeremy: Volvo S80. I’m part of the Volvo family now!

[Ed.: Volvo recently announced that they signed Jeremy as a spokesperson.]

Amy: Have you ever had any pets? Goldfish, turtles, dogs, frogs, et cetera?

Jeremy: I had a lot of fish growing up, but I tend to feed them too much because i naturally eat a lot, and wanted to make sure my fish were well fed.

Drew: What instrument would you play if you could choose?

Jeremy: Drums. I played drums for my youth group in high school, but I sucked a lot so I had to use the same beat every song, hahaha.

Asia: What’s your favorite Lecrae song?

Jeremy: “Praying for You.” The music video is unreal.

Courtney: Do you have a favorite fiction book?

Jeremy: I read the first four Harry Potter books. Then they kept getting longer and longer, so I couldn’t do it anymore, LOL.

Ling: Do you cook? What’s your best dish?

Jeremy: Steak and eggs. Garlic salt for the steak. Sriracha sauce for the eggs!

Fiona: Anything that you want us to pray for you most?

Jeremy: A healthy/speedy recovery, wisdom on how to make the biggest impact with the Jeremy Lin Foundation and a better understanding of Jesus’s death/resurrection on the cross.

Dorothy: Did you play a musical instrument while growing up?

Jeremy: Piano. But I wish I’d played the triangle, ha ha.

Chichiger: Chocolate chip cookies or sugar cookies?

Jeremy: Chocolate chip cookies that are straight out of the oven with vanilla ice cream on top!

Sharmin: What is one thing you’ve always wanted to do, but have never gotten the chance?

Jeremy: Water ski or jet ski.

Bobby: You turn it over too much. How you gonna fix that?

Jeremy: Well, I can tell you I will definitely have zero turnovers for the next six weeks. So I guess that’s an improvement, right?

Yi-An: Are you afraid of cockroaches?

Jeremy: YES. Cockroaches, bees, all insects. I can deal with ants though, haha.

May: Do you play Super Smash Bros. Brawl? ^_~

Jeremy: I spent a good chunk of my childhood playing Super Smash Bros. on Nintendo 64, but never really played much Brawl.

Ranny: Are you a good singer?

Jeremy: I think I am, but none of my friends do. But I think they’re wrong, LOL.

Tiffany: Do you think your fans are insane?

Jeremy: Nope you guys are the best. That’s why I’m doing the Q&A!

Michi: Shoes or watch?

Jeremy: I looooove shoes.

Sophia: When will this Q&A section end?

Jeremy: Now, unfortunately, LOL. I’m getting tired. WOW, I just threw up in the middle of the Q&A! Okay, time to get some rest, but before I go, just wanna say much love to all you fans! Thanks to you guys who make MSG the best arena, and thanks to all the NY media/beat writers for all your hard work in getting information to the fans. Good night!

***

A friend of mine, MIT engineering grad student Ryan Ko, compiled a quick script to analyze the 8,300-plus questions asked by Jeremy’s fans during his epic Q&A.

In addition to a dozen requests to go to prom, he received 43 unique marriage proposals (several individuals asked him multiple times, including a particularly persistent fan named Danna who asked him 45 times).

Proposal formats included exploratory (“Would you ever marry a black girl?”); sneaky (“Do you think you will be in good condition for the playoffs? And will you marry me?”); logical (“I hope you’re feeling well! & sorry to all the other ladies, but I think it’s only right that we get married, since we’re both from Cali and now live in NY…obviously?”); illogical (“I saw our names next to each other! It’s fate — let’s get married!”); patient (“Hey, I waited since you tweeted about the Q&A. Will you marry me?”); impatient (“Can we get married today or tomorrow?”; polite (“Jeremy can we get married? Please?”); poetic (“Will you marry me, Jeremy? LOL it rhymes”); demanding (“Jeremy Lin: I love Asian men. Marry me…now!”); and proxy-propositioned (“Will you marry my sister?”). One woman was aware that the path to a baller’s heart is through his stomach: “If we got married i’d make you lobster, your favorite!” And another was more concerned about her boyfriend’s mancrush: “All the girls are asking you to marry them, but I’m going to ask you to say no to my BF when he asks you, kthanks.”

About 100 people asked him about videogames (97 of them male) — around half of them challenging him with various levels of aggressiveness: “Play me in Dota scrub!” “NO MORE Q&A, START WRECKING US IN VIDEO GAMES!” “I shall teach you the ways of Smash Bros. Brawl!” “Me, you, Starcraft, now.”

We hope you do another Q&A soon, Jeremy! And message us your gamertag!

Lila: What is your favorite book of the Bible? And verse?

What a dipshit. I stopped reading there. The bible has no place in sports.

Jeremy Lin is good for the NBA. The NBA has been dropping in popularity steadily over the past decade. Hell NASCAR is even more popular than Pro basketball

Yeah, notsureifsrs.jpg! Tebow didn't throw that touchdown pass against the Steelers, it was god!

Jeremy can believe whatever the fvck he wants. He only mentions it when asked just like you saying you're atheist. He's totally different than that hack showboating Tebow.

<-- Atheist myself.

Nascars more popular than a lot of sports. Football and maybe baseball excluded.

Like on facebook in his post-op picture, he said something along the lines of "praise god" for the successful surgery. I hope his doctors don't have low self-esteem

I gotta admit. I sat down and watched a Nascar race when they had that Monday race with all the crazy stuff going on, and I actually enjoyed it.

I wish F1 was broadcast here, I'd probably really enjoy that.

I doubt you'd enjoy snotty brits talking for two hours about how fantastic the weather is for the race. Very few crazy things happen in F1.

Seems like a nice guy, but I get infuriated when someone can't write simple sentences without using exclamation points everywhere and peppering "LOL" throughout their speech. If he talked like he wrote, he'd come across as mentally retarded.

Are you serious? Nascar is shit. Watching cars go around in circles is dumber than even watching someone play golf.

F1 is broadcast here. It's usually odd hours though like 4 am sunday morning on the Speed channel.

Next race is the Grand Prix of China. Sunday April 15th 2:30 am EST on Speed.

Anyone know what the actual visual findings were when Lin had arthroscopic surgery?

Google research seems to indicate prognosis and timetable for return depends upon what they found (how much arthritic damage, were they able to just put suture in or grind away loose cartilege, was is medial or lateral in terms of blood flow and healing ability)?
