I have to laugh at how Michigan Democrats raised business taxes and Comerica Bank left the state.

Comerica probably would have left for Texas anyway. They saw which way the winds of prosperity were blowing and high-tailed it out of town. Can't say I blame them.

Will the last person to leave Michigan please turn out the lights?

We (Illinois) would happily trade you.

Our gov has now garnered the lowest approval rating of any gov in the history of the state. He can't even walk down a darkened hallway in the state capital without fear of getting shanked by a member of his own party.

I had no idea. What is going on in your state?

We in Indiana would not happily trade you. We love Mitch... but you can have our democratic nominee this cycle. Jill Long has AMPLE Democratic Party experience in the House of Representatives. We fired her from that job, but she's not damaged goods in your state yet! :)

Sorry, but thats not how politics works. We don't praise someone for "giving it the old college try". We praise them when they do something that effects the citizens they represent. And when they fail, much like Granholm has, we give them hell for it. Of course, here in Michigan, its not how it works. When democrats fail here we just elect more democrats.

It truely is an amazing thing to watch. Go across the country and look at our large urban area's that are ripe with crime and poverty and see who runs the city councils and is elected to the state legislature. It is overwhelmingly democrats who fail but continue to get elected.

it's "rife" and it does suck that ppl continue to vote blindly based on political parties rather than looking to the candidate him/herself. i wish ppl would open their eyes and stop seeing shit as dem v. rep all the fuckin time

Michigan voters would have thrown her out of office in the last election but the Republicans chose a religious nutjob (Dick DeVos, owner of Amway) to be their candidate.

I'd wager Corbett voted for him.

I can't speak for the national party, but just about everyone in the state of Michigan hates her and considers her absolutely incompetent. If she ever ran from president, which she can't since she is Canadian, she would lose Michigan badly.

The less said about her "speech" during the Pistons Championship parade in 2004, the better.

The Republican party in Michigan is dominated by the religious fundamentalists in the western part of that state (Grand Rapids metro) which is largely Calvinist/religious fundamentalists. They have turned the party into a platform for their religion, and you see a reactionary republican party more like you see in the Bible belt states.

That's why John McCain lost the state primary to Romney, and why Huckabee did so well. Moderates and independents have left the party. Granholm does well because the state republican party is a joke.

Palin sees Michigan republicans as gold for her possible 2012 run...look at her protestations about pulling out of the state 2 weeks ago, pure PR.

Yea, I continue to dream of a day where anyone runs for whatever nomination based on their name. The name that they built a reputation from the votes and decisiosn they have made. That way when they state in their PRs "this is what I want to change" it is actually what they want and they aren't being controlled like a puppet, just like the canindates today.

Yep, I born into it, small town outside of GR, attended their churches and schools, graduated Calvin in 86. Still visit my family in Jenison/Hudsonville.

Talk religion with them much? They are a close-minded lot.

You act like Blagojagoff has an office in Springfield. You'd be wrong in thinking that as he never moved from Chicago. I really don't like him for costing me more money to fly people to Chicago from Springfield any time they want to meet with him.

No I just have to support them all for IT work.

I'm a luthern, but I'm not a religious nut, so usually I don't talk about religion. But because I didn't attend Calvin, it seems like I in the out crowd. Went the great drinking school of Ferris.
