The 146.6MB update brings full, stock JB build JRO03O. Better late than never - go get it!

Only a month behind every other Nexus. An improvement for Verizon. :) Not sure why it took 5 months for the comparatively minor 4.0.4 update though.

Droid Life reports its a WiFi only update until 1 October. I'm not able to pull anything from my Gnex, even with the Framework trick. Phoenix is usually last for these roll outs though.

What's the typical lag on previous Android releases on Nexus devices? I'm on the side of "Nexus or bust" when recommending Android phones but I may have to refine it to non-Verizon nexus phones or bust.

On GSM Nexii, its pretty quick. On CDMA Nexii, the Galaxy Nexus Verizon/Sprint are the first, so this is the baseline. So far, CDMA Nexii have lagged the GSM Nexii.

On non-Nexii branded devices, all over the map. Could be a couple months, could be several, could be never.

No self respecting Nexus owner waits for the carrier to update OTA. If you want to wait for OTA updates, buy the SG3. :p

I just wanna point out that this exact build has been available on AOSP from Google for the VZW Nexus for quite a while now(Just a few days after 4.1.1 went on AOSP for the GSM model if I recall correctly). Waiting on Verizon is a non issue now that the VZW Nexus is on AOSP.

Knowing nothing about the update process, would that require rooting?

Bite me. :p Some bought the Nexus because we thought we'd get quick updates from Google without having to root. Verizon took care of that misconception.

No rooting required but it does require unlocking the bootloader(which wipes the phone). Takes a few minutes to do because you had to go from IMM76K(previous official OTA) to IMM76Q(unreleased interim build) then to JRO03O but it's pretty painless.

I couldn't wait for Verizon. Moved to a custom rom a month ago or so. Very satisfied with the rom I went with, though I don't remember the name off hand (not CM10--tried that but it crashed too often).

I'm letting my anger towards Verizon stew and harden the sword.

It's been two hours since your first post. Even if you took your time, you could have been rooted and running a custom rom by now. There's a cool little "toolbox" program that pretty much does everything for you with a few clicks. ;)

I went with BAMF and I have zero regrets. It has been very stable and everything works great.

I'm aware of the toolbox, but it'd take more than 2 hours to reinstall my apps and redownload their associated data packages. And since this is my daily driver phone, and I have expected important phone calls as well as having to be at work, I'm not able to factory reset my phone. :p

Probably true. You can shave some or a lot of that time by rooting then installing titaniumbackup and backing up your apps. Then use that backup (including data) to restore selected apps to the new installation. I'd also suggest backing up the backup (outside of the phone) as a safety measure.

I know the tricks man. I owned a Tbolt before. :p Might be more hesitant with the GNex though because I bought the phone at full retail price.

My Exhibit 4G is rooted and running CM9 though. ;)

You sound defensive! Maybe its because you owned a Tbolt (terrible phone?) and now you own a non-rooted Gnex! :D

Just razzin you, but seriously, root that bi&*#.

When you click to enable the wifi hotspot it pops up saying checking subscription status then gives you an error and a phone number to call to enable it. I just use foxfi and never had a problem.

Some of the comments at Droid Life and Android Police indicate that FoxFi may be broken after the JB update. Not sure if the FoxFi devs will update or not.

Heck no. You have to root and install a 3rd party app, or use a custom rom.

There's several root-less wifi and USB tether apps that work.

Does Verizon tinker much with the OS? For example are you allowed to tether using the built in tether option?
1.) Yes.
2.) No(or I should say Yes only if you pay the tethering fee or are on the new "shared" data plans).

Verizon used to block people from downloading tethering apps from the Play Store(there were workarounds that worked such as enabling "Airplane mode" then turning on WiFi to access the Play Store and download), and you could only use their own built-in tether option.

However, they were slapped with a lawsuit by the FCC and now cannot block you from downloading the tethering apps on the Play Store.
But anyone that still wants to use the phone "built-in" tethering option on all Verizon phones have to pay a tethering fee or move to the new shared data plans.
99% of the people don't know you can now download tethering apps on the Play Store and not have to pay a thing.
I forgot...This is a Nexus, so it's not really 99%. More like 51%.

That is my understanding.
Anyone that has a Nexus on Verizon please clarify.
