Even though I shouldn't promote their stuff, I like them, listen to their podcasts, and they've launched the beta version of Giant Bomb... which is pretty big. They spent a lot of time putting info into the system... too bad it looks like their servers are a bit slow and there are some glitchy things going on.

http://www.giantbomb.com/

Welcome to Giant Bomb: The Blog. It?s sort of like Alien 3: The Gun, only with more explosions and less track. After working on this in secret for as long as we have been, it?s totally exciting to be able to finally let you in on what we?ve been doing. I actually still haven?t gotten used to freely speaking the name of the site in public, or even typing it, really. It?s always been ?The Site? or ?The Thing I?m Doing? or ?If Marion Cobretti Was A Website.?

So let me start by telling you what Giant Bomb is, and then I?ll briefly touch on what Giant Bomb will become. Right now, we?re opening up this blog, where myself and others will be writing about games, covering them in much the same way I?ve been doing on my personal blog for the past three months. Sometimes it will be off-the-cuff, sometimes it will be reasoned and well-thought-out. We?ll review games here, and we?ll talk about upcoming stuff, as well. We?ll occasionally chime in on the news that surrounds the game industry, both here in print, and in our podcast, which will grow out of the Arrow Pointing Down podcast that I?ve been doing with Ryan Davis for the past few weeks. Yes, we will still continue to speak our minds on the latest happenings in the beverage and snack food industries. Don?t you worry about that. We?ll talk about games there, too. Surprise!

We?ll also use this blog to talk about the site we?re building behind the scenes. There is an expert team of dudes behind the Bomb, ensuring that there will be a robust, feature-filled website at our disposal, which we?ll use to talk about games. And energy drinks. We?ll show you a bit of the process behind building a site that covers video games, like how we plan to review games, or what sort of interaction you can expect to have with the site?s community features, or what sort of equipment we?re purchasing in order to make this all possible. We?re calling this series ?How To Build A Bomb,? mostly because I wanted to make sure that the Department of Homeland Security never misses an episode. The first installment is already available.

There?ll be more info in the weeks ahead, so I?ll keep it brief. But to all of you who have been following my antics for the past few months, I just wanted to say thanks for sticking it out, and I really think the site is going to blow your mind.

Wow, that wasn't at all what I was expecting. It just looks so, umm, amateurish. I guess I just expected that a brand new site being headed by a couple of guys who have been in the game web publication business for such a long time would look a little more organized and professional.

I know it's still a work in progress, so we'll see. But they have a long, long way to go in order "blow our minds".

Haha yeah, what it looks like is this is a starting block to where its going, but it does look amateur for sure. But thankfully, I dont need to visit the site as I've sub'd to the RSS feed.

Thanks for the post! I've been a big Gerstmann fan since the early GameSpot HotSpot podcast days, and having Ryan Davis and Alex Navarro thrown in the mix makes it almost like old times. Subscribed via iTunes. :)

What? I never knew that Alex Navarro left. He and Jeff were my favorite reviewers.

Yep. Gamespot has been completely gutted of all its talent. I havent touched the site since the whole K&L debacle, and something tells me I'm not missing much.

Worth noting that Giant Bomb has a podcast and is quite hilarious if you were into the Gerstmann style humor. If you left because of that debacle, Giant Bomb is the place to be now.

They've only just started, give them a chance. The content is what matters and I think it's excellent. The site launches properly in the summer.

fuck gerstmann, it's over for him, nobody cares about him anymore. Stupid navarro gave SMG a 10 yet in the f'in podcast made a fool out of himself when he did a walkthrough of the game.

the only guy I liked on gamespot was that russian guy with the glasses and the dorky voice. The one who moved on to do video game consulting or something for EA or someone.

as for gamespot, they know what they're doing, they don't want the same guys there forever so they keep cycling them out. The majority of their subscribers are noobs and kids who don't care who does reviews as long as the next hyped up game gets a high score so they can brag to their friends who own a different console that they can play that game and their friends can't.

Your sentence is kind of long.

It is my least favorite of the gaming podcasts I listen to but still good enough for me to listen.

I gave it an honest listen (2 episodes), but when the majority of both seemed to revolve around listening to them chug different kinds of energy drinks, I quickly deleted the subscription. I cannot fucking stand a gaming podcast where half of the podcast is spent talking about other shit. Even though I hate Garnett Lee, I still listen to 1Up Yours! because they talk about games from the first second to the last.

EDIT: After finally getting their site to load, I can say they did a complete 180 and their site looks pretty slick now (compare to my post above about 4 months ago). I like the design a lot. I guess we'll see about the content as time marches forward.
