Statement as of 11:00 PM EDT on August 26, 2005
Katrina is forecast to move directly over the warm loop current of the Gulf of Mexico...which is like adding high octane fuel to the fire. Therefore...the official forecast brings Katrina to 115 knots...or a category four on the Saffir-Simpson hurricane scale. The GFDL is more aggressive and calls for 124 knots and 922 mb. The FSU superensemble is even more aggressive bringing Katrina to 131 knots.

I used to live in Lake Charles, so I understand the feeling. Try Utah, Logan in particular. As long as you don't mind 4 feet of snow and temperatures that don't get over zero for about 3-4 weeks, it's pretty nice. Temps next week are lows in the upper 40's and highs in the low 80's. As I recall, that was november in Louisiana.

Good luck man, and stay safe.

Wow..

If you look at the historical map, there hasn't been a hurricane like this in about 150 years..

I'll be worried about you as I lean back in my cozy chair in meteorologically and geologically stable NW Ohio :)

We had a tornado around here once back in 1969.

i dont know if you know what it is like for an entire city and its surrounding area to evacuate every year. im so sick of it running that i am willing to ride it out and so do many others.
