Kinda pisses me off too. He knows she's going through a tough time and I guess decided this was the best time to "recruit"

I remember a thread about scientology here awhile ago...someone posted some very iffy and disturbing stuff about the so called "church".

Can anyone help me help my friend into making a good decision?

Hey Franco, long time no see. :)

Make sure to tell her about the story of Keith Henson, who had to seek political asylum here in Canada after someone in the Church pulled in a favour with law enforcement in California to have him arrested under hate crimes statute. Having to seek political asylum FROM the United States, can you imagine? That's insane.

While I agree with Red Dawn's assessment, that may not be the best way to go about keeping her away from one of the worst cults currently known to exist. Look through xenu.net and read a bunch of the things they have to say about Scientology. There is some great information on there for helping people from making huge stupid mistakes.

Tom Cruise is a Scientologist. He dumped Nicole Kidman, that's another knock against Scientologist (little bone smoker)

They supposedly broke up over the whole Scientology thing... Any cult that forces you to lose a hot POA like Kidman has to be evil.

If you have a lot of money, and very little brains, there is a good chance you are a member of one of the cults out there.

Hehe. Has anybody seen . . . oh crap, can't remember the name of the movie. But Steve Martin and Eddie Murphy are in it, and Terence Stamp plays this leader of a Scientology-like cult that Eddie Murphy's character is in. It's hilarious.

Edit, wow, I guess you're not in good hands with All-State.

I had an ex-boss that was into that wackyness. A cult, plain and simple. I'msurprised they do so well with the Internet being so popular. They probably have someone monitoring this thread now..

i dunno if many people here listen to loveline, but adam carolla made fun of the scientologists one time. a few episodes later, he described how he got a phone call from the church, telling him to stop and making vague threats pertaining to his career (ie, you'll never get a gig again). then he told them to kiss his fat, hairy ass :)

A site I used to visit regularly had some of the writing on their site, the COS threatened them with legal BS. So they got a friend of thiers in some foreign country to host the writings. :D

At one time, there were Scientology pop-up ads on AT . . . that got taken care of EXTREMELY quickly, though.

And yeah, the movie was "Bowfinger." I've also seen some other jokes about it in other films. I think that while a few actors might be into it, a lot of the others probably look at it with disdain.

Copyright infringement/DMCA BS.

Hey Hubbard and friends, go f--k yourself. Wanna tell me to remove your crappy lil scifi stories from my site? Sure not a prob. Now they are located in another country, on another continent, on a server owned by a non american. IE, somewhere the DMCA doesnt work too well. When you threatened me with yer lil AOL lawyer, you killed a nuisance (yup thats me), and created a monster :)

I left out a bit of that rant because of the language :p

so to be fair, are the evils done in the name of scientology worse then that of the major religions? i highly doubt it.

Nope, but the CoS seems to be the one I always hear about. Most other cults (or religions if you want to call the COS that) do not treat their members the way the COS does, they were not invented to make the originator rich, and they do not get their lawyers out the of the same tier of hell as AOL. They may all be false (who really knows?), but many were started by someone that believed what they were preaching.

So do I hate the COS more than I hate all organized "religions?" Yes.

CoS is scary, although some of their stories about creation and such are pretty funny to read. Links to CoS "confidential" docs somewhere in the forums from previous threads, just have to search.
