I am currently running a P4 2.4B@160mhz was at 166 but some newer games crashed..so I backed down and improved the memory settings...

So as usually I am getting the itch to upgrade my cpu..which means better mobo and ram

I currently have:
P4 2.4@2900
512 crucial 2100 ddr at 160mhz cas 2/2/6
IT7 Max 2 rev2 (abit mobo)
radeon 9700 pro 351/331
aureal vortex 2 soundcard on winxp...may swap back to my creative SB live...
Liteon 16x dvd rom
Liteon 52x cdrw
Nec 1100A 4x dvd +rw
2 160 gb maxtor hdd
adaptec 2906 scsi card for my 5-6yr scanner
480 w antec true power

Anyway..I have no idea whether I should wait longer and skip the itch this year

I do a fair amount of video encoding, surfing, burning and less gaming than last year

From a need standpoint ..there is no need for an upgrade...but well you know....

Your system looks like it should be able to handle any game adequately.

I would not do a major upgrade right now if I were you. I would wait for the next generation of CPUs and maybe mobos with PCI Express.

My son's comp is a 1.4GHz athlon thunderbird with 512MB of PC2100 RAM and a Ti4200 vid card and he does just fine. He just finished MOHBT and Halo and everything looks great and your system is better than his.

a full year with the same cpu?!?!?! Man alive... how did you do that? I have had about 30 different cpu's in the last year alone!

I don't know that that is a good thing to confess :Q
