I went to a dealer today to talk about ordering a Rubicon since they have none on any of the lots I went to and the guy said 4-5 months out.

Uhhh... Why don't they produce more if they have such an "item"? Be happy one American car is selling and stamp them out:frown:

For those who don't know the rubicon is a regular Jeep Wrangler TJ but with:
-air actuated locking diffs front and rear
-beefed up t-case
-Beefy dana 44's front and rear
-body sill gaurds
-haevy duty U-joints, driveshaft and four wheel disks

Basically trail ready from the factory (needs a lift though and 35's for rubicon w/o too much body damage )

Umm...this happens all the time with new cars. First, they can't always accurately guage demand, especially for something "special". Therefore they make a few, see how they do, then decide how much to ramp up production. The other side of it is marketing/artificial demand. It happens whenever a new "hype" car comes out. There is a shortage (whether real or perceived) and therefore people want it even more, and dealers can gouge (remember the people paying $30,000 for a new $16,000 VW Beetle?)

May I ask as to why you wish to get the rubicon instead of a regular wrangler?

I ask this because you can upgrade a wranger and make it better than a rubicon for less $. ( depends on why you are pickign the rubicon over the wrangler though )

I'd spend the extra money on a rubi over a new and then modified wrangler for the warrenty. Dealers don't look highly upon you replacing your own axles

Dana 44's front and rear add $3200
ARB lockers with air compressor add $2200
NV2410R tranfer case add $1200
Heavy duty u joints and drivelines add $800
four wheel disks ...Not sure

But you see my point; no way can you get a stock wrangler and fix it up to be as good as the rubi for less.

Those are for "new" and revolutionary models not a TJ which has been produced in it's current form since 98'. This only has running gear modifications.

Edit: BTW the beetle is the coolest and head roomiest car I have ever driven to bad it's only for girls:)
