interesting that the military would go back to jeep. the HMMWV has only been in service for maybe, 20ish years? hopefully they stand up to what the current vehicle cannot.(if its to be used in the U.S. military that is)

Since it's going to be manufactured in Cairo, it's a good bet the military in question is the Egyptian Army.

It still would be a good idea for the US to get some, the hummer is too big sometimes and a smaller alternative could be useful.

It's not meant for front line use, but for transport on bases, etc. Of course, the Humvee is not meant for front line use either.

Nothing wrong with plastic. It's light, cheap, and you can drag the fenders on trees or rocks and not cause any damage. On the other hand, steel would dent, and require replacing or hammering out. Everyone jumps on the "let's complain about plastic" bandwagon, but even assault rifles and aircraft are made from plastics.

Everything military has an automatic these days. The soldiers have a lot of different things to think about/focus on and personally shifting a transmission is not important.

mmm a light 4-cylinder diesel pickup, versatile and fuel efficient. Been wanting someone to bring one to the states, if the vw rabbits aren't coming back, I'll just have to steal a military jeep.
