Jeep Liberty Renegade -- Your thoughts?

The Jeep Liberty Renegade model has now been confirmed for 2003. To quote from 4 Wheeler Magazine:

"Speaking of the Liberty, the good folks at Jeep have announced the addition of a Renegade model to the Liberty line. The features several upgrades, including the 3.7L V6 as standard equipment for this model, Goodyear P235 all-terrain tires on 17-inch aluminum six-spoke wheels that are unique to this model, off-road lamp bar with four halogen lamps, wheel flares that are unique to this model, tubular side steps, and several new colors."

The only no-no in my opinion are those stupid step rails. The first stump you get caught on, those babies are getting ripped off. That and those street tires need to get the axe. Put some nice knobby swampers on there and you are good to go.

What do you think?

<< looks like a poser, mall runner too me... >>

At least Jeeps can tackle the trails (rough stuff) where many other SUVs can just tackle dirt roads. And I think it looks sweet...especially the 17" wheels.

So, when do they say it will be available?

My wife is ready to get one soon; and she was complaining about the leather seats being only one color. I see they have darker ones in that model.

I still like to unpainted flares better. Less stone chips to worry about.

Well, if the Wrangler Rubicon is any indicator, late spring 2002 will see it's introduction.

It looks nice, and the off-road lights up top are cool. However, I'd like to see a biit more power out of it. I wish they would offer the 260HP 4.7L as an option.

thoese street tires on the jeep wont do much off road.......the tires seems like they would do good in the sand dunes tho..

Hm. Nothing personal, but this is going to be rantish 😉 :

From the pics it looks like that car is riding so low that it will probably have trouble with speed bumps, never mind climbing over anything bigger than a baseball bat when in off-road use.

Then there's the alloy wheels - too fragile, and if they break - they break. Better off with plain old steel wheels when off-roading, at least they can be hammered back to a somewhat round shape as a quick fix.

If this thing is not going to be used off road, then why suffer the wind noise, fuel consumption, bad handling, unprecise steering, poor acceleration etc. typical for these brick on wheels?

I agree.
