Jeep Hurricane...cool but utterly pointless

Makes sense for those who really, really love offroading.

Umm, no. For hardcore offroad, you want solid axles, a light chassis, massive articulation (way more important than single wheel clearance), and 670hp is absolutely useless. Simplicity is good to have as well, for when you snap something on the trail and need to fix it yourself.

I will say this is a sweet concept vehicle, even if it has no purpose.

hehe looks pretty cool, but what is all that power for? it looks like too much hp for that small of a car no? I think it just needs like a quarter of it. or howabout 2 4cyl engines? hehehe...

Agreed. But if Jeep had any testicular fortitude (which they don't) they'd release the suspension and turning hardware as an aftermarket (Or maybe option) package for the Wrangler. They'd make BAJILLIONS.
If Jeep (Chrysler) would have any testicular fortitude AND common sense they would've never killed the inline 6 cylinder engine, the most loved Jeep engine, but alas...
I didn't realize they killed the I6:(
They didn't. The 4.0L I6 is still available for the Wrangler.

Not going to be made -- least not with that odd "all wheel turn" system as it is an accident/lawsuit waiting to happen.

so long as theres some sort of saftey feature which prevents it from being used over a couple miles per hour it should be fine...course some douche will circumvent it and try it at 80...

Correct, the 2.5L I4 was also an AMC carryover, but was killed last year. The V6 was not placed in the Wrangler because it could not meet safety requirements for front-end crashes, unless you enjoy having an engine in your lap. This is the same reason why the 5.7L was not put in the Wrangler, though there is a company called AEV who will do the conversion for a fee ($$$$$$$$).

Regarding the design, it looks very complicated. I couldn't imagine doing the U-Joints on it. Boo to the independent suspension, as well.

Thirdly, it is interesting to see the old Jeep names coming back. The hurricane was the old engine used starting in or around 1950 and up until the 70's it was available. The gladiator is the name of the old Jeep truck back in the day.

Just an update, from the little birds that fly around me, I hear that the Gladiator is almost definately coming out. It will be based on the Rescue platform. :D

negative on the mpg .. From what I've read, it can run on 4 of it's 16 cylinders to improve fuel economy. I'm guessing ~20 mpg highway.

now when you stomp on it ... gallons per mile. :)

why? GMC/chevy has all wheel turn on their pickups.

Looks a bit like the Peugeot concept Hoggar - two engines and off road look. Even if the Hoggar's engines were two smaller diesels. However, I think the Hurricane looks better outside. I don't really like the red-faced interior
Miles per gallon for a 3800 lbs vehicle? I'd say under 20 mpg in best case

The turning hardware would not fit on any other "normal" car without extensive modifications.
