Jeep Gladiator video review

Jalop review praised it also:

The Jeep Gladiator “JT” is essentially a stretched Jeep Wrangler JL that Jeep threw a bed onto and altered to carry and tow more weight. Like the Wrangler, it is body-on-frame, has a five-link solid axle suspension in the front and rear, is powered by a 285 horsepower, 260 lb-ft, 3.6-liter Pentastar V6, sends that power through either an eight-speed automatic or a six-speed manual transmission, comes with a removable top and doors, as well as a foldable windshield, and is an absolute off-road champion.

btw I'd buy that 5 speed Comanche in a heartbeat, no question

I liked Doug's review of this and almost posted the same link last evening 🙂
It looks to be a real Jeep, its definatly not a rebadged fiat, though it was likely designed after jeep and fiat's merger ...

Holy crap. I read about that lease price and figured it was a gimmick. With 90% residual that's no joke! There's no way it can actually be 90%, can it?

I won't get into specific numbers, but when I traded in my Renegade for my Mustang, they gave me a lot more than I was expecting. Jeeps have ridiculous resale value. I don't feel like 90% is truly attainable, but then again, just look at the price of a used Subaru Forester...we got a better deal overall on financing than we would have buying a used one! Seriously though, if they really sell a base-model stick-shift for $143/mo on lease...as bad of an experience as I had with my Renegade (and with Jeep in general), I'd say:

1. It's a 2-year lease, so it's going back anyway

2. It's $35/week...I mean, c'mon

3. One of my biggest complaints was the 9-speed automatic, and this is a stick-shift, so it bypasses that whole problem

4. The 2015 model year was the worst for the Renegade; they got a lot better after that. I have several friends who own them with zero issues. Also, the Gladiator is not made by Fiat. Also, even though it's a first-year product, it's really just a beefed-up Wrangler with a bed, and steals a few parts from the RAM truck.

My current rental has assigned outdoor parking spaces, so I'm hosed for a third vehicle right now, but that's an amazing price for what you get, especially given a base price of $33.5k. I'd imagine the buyout pricing would be awful, but if they kept the low-mileage leasing deal available every couple of years, that would be an amazing vehicle for the price of a winter beater!

This would have the corporate 8-speed which is a much better trans from what I can gather reading online.

Anyway, for $35 a week you really can't lose!

It's better than the 9, but still not great imo. I test-drove a couple cars with the 8, including the Charger. Didn't care for the shift delay at all. Likewise, I didn't like Ford's 10-speed auto, which was constantly gear-hunting in the Mustang. Which is interesting because Kia's 8-speed transmission in the Stinger was fantastic.

The Gladiators are starting to pop up everywhere now.

It is the ugliest truck I have ever seen. I liked it in pictures, but in person...wow. Woof.

Has anyone noticed how pitifully cheap the turning signal is on the gladiator? I was behind one of these the other day and the rear light pulses ever so slightly that you can barely tell the turning signal is on. The cost cutting Jeep did to this vehicle is absolutely shameful considering how expensive this vehicle is.

Ugly, I didn't watch the video but Doug probably loved it lol. He just dropped $100k on a '99 Benz G500 Cabriolet. Which is maybe the ugliest thing I've seen aside from the Pontiac Aztec.

I got one, Overland model. I had totaled my Jeep G.Cherokee Trailhawk and needed a replacement vehicle. No dealers had a comparable JGC, so I decided to try out the Gladiator that was on the lot. About 2 months now, and I'm enjoying it. It doesn't drive anything like the JGC, but after a little adjustment, it drives better than a Jeep Wrangler I had in the mid 90's. Never owning a truck before, I'm not sure if it drives like a truck.

I've already changed out the wheels and tires and will be installing a new steel bumper in the next few days. No regrets so far... and it isn't cheap and just itches for mods, so I believe I'll be spending a lot more money. 71083776_10219807697562123_7435725782615326720_o.jpgfrt bumper_edited.jpg
