Nothing odd about this. I ran a dozer underwater 25 years ago on a dam construction job.
Had a 25' snorkle for the air intake and exhaust. Got to sit and pull levers in a full "hard-had diving rig.
Went through 2 months of training to learn to wear and work in one...VERY different work environment than anything I had ever done...before or since.
