okay our flight was supposed to be @ 110p (and supposed to land @ 610p), flight delayed to 150p, sat on runway till 240p , arrived @ 730p. missed connecting flight @ 715p, last flight out - could wait till tomorrow morning for dest. airport, but decided to go to airport nearby dest. airport @ 10p instead, lost car rental @ dest. airport.

reason: captain couldnt fly plane w/o sunglasses

You're going to have to go to the destination airport anyway tomorrow to pick up checked baggage.

Same happened to me except the reason was legit, Midwest snowstorm. I ended up at DTW at 8:15 for a 7:55pm connection and ended up going to a close by airport at 8am the next day rather than th original one at 3pm. Still had to go to the original one to pick up luggage at 3pm though.

Huge PITA and I spent more time in Detroit than I'd like to spend in that hellhole for a lifetime. Got a couple of free meals and a bump up to first class though.

I think there's a problem with the order of events in your story, OP. I can't see what the pilot needing sunglassing has to do with you losing the car rentel at the destination airport. How the hell do you lose a rental? Aren't you supposed to leave in the rental - taking the car with you? Did you walk home from the airport, then have an "OH, I could have had a V8 moment?"

We were supposed to arrive @ IAH (because that's where the rental was reserved with), but we had to go to HOB instead. so we lost the car rental, because of an extra hour delay for sunglasses.

Yeah, why didn't you call the rental place OP? They could have made your accommodations with their location at HOB. Surely you realize that what happen to you goes on every day?

I think you mean HOU instead of HOB.

Yeah my wife flies through that area at least once a year and there is always some sort of problem that delays everything. Last time, the pilot scheduled to fly didn't make it back the previous night in time so due to mandatory rest periods he couldn't fly. Isn't there other pilots?

There is a HOB in New Mexico. I think you are right though, and he meant HOU.

oh come on, that's the 1st (well, 2nd thing) we did when we got off the plane (the 1st was to see if our connecting flight took off (and it did) so they had to see if they could get us another way to Houston). they offered us a "distressed" hotel rate if we opted to take the next flight tomorrow morning. wtf, they screwed up and we still have to pay + wait???

we had 3 phones going off calling AA corporate, Alamo Car rental in HOU and Alamo Car rental in corporate. got the run-around at both Alamos, until we finally got an answer saying that they wont honor the rate @ IAH to HOU. luckily after calling again eventually we were able to get a refund on the car rental today. but

(p.s. yeah it's HOU, sorry didn't know)

Refund? I've never been charged anything for making a car rental reservation?
And until you need to book something special, all you have to do usually is to bring a printout of your rates and usually the rental company will match it. Works with Hertz and often Enterprise all the time.
