Jeebus Compaq Computers Are Loaded With Junk

Queasy

I got the CompUSA Comap SR1710NX deal and I'm just getting around to setting it up now. I can't believe how much junk they have installed on these computers.

There are a little more than 30 games loaded on here from WildTangent. Aren't all those WildTangent games supposed to just load your PC up with SpyWare? Seem a little bass-ackwards to load the machine up with that plus Norton's SpyWare removal tool.

Oh well. Uninstall Uninstall Uninstall....

edit: Lord...they've got WeatherBug on there too!

How do you like it so far?

Great deal minus the installed junk. I need to go pick up at least a stick of 512MB RAM to add on and this is the perfect PC for my kid to do his Reader Rabbit and other games on. 😀

What kind of CD's does it come with?

I wonder if you can call Compaq support and get an OS disc (not restore)?

I've been digging around in the box and it comes with exactly zero CDs other than an AOL CD. It has a hard drive partition that I think you restore off of.

I have an XP Home upgrade CD but I'd rather use their CD. I'll have to contact their support.

How di you get your hands on that deal, they actually had some left?

I bought it on Thursday and did a return and rebuy today. My brother was able to walk into a store and pick up one for himself and for his brother-in-law today though.

I'm surprised to hear they will allow that.

i got the 1610 on new years day, did a return/rebuy this morning for the better deal. store didn't seem to have any 1710s in stock or i might have picked up one of those as well.

All of them are loaded with crap. I just setup a new Dell XPS400 system for someone. Out of the box it had 67 processes running using 390MB of RAM. Just unreal, what makes things even worse is they bought McAfee's security center garbage with that Dell. Such a nice piece of hardware being strangled by such garbage. Heading back of there tomorrow to finish things up and trim the fat on that system.
