Good for Ford. They need some good news and hopefully if they keep this up it'll help slowly change the perception of domestic autos

Not really. They won a few categories, but they still have a corporate average of 120 problems per 100 vehicles compared to 108 and 112 respectively for Honda and Toyota. The overall brand winner is Porsche followed by Lexus. The overall winner based on volume would be Honda.

Saying that Ford wins is like saying that Germany won WWII because they won some key battles.

I don't really trust their reviews, but I trust their quality ratings.

For example, does anyone here think that a Grand Prix is better than a Camry?

That's a nice jump by Lincoln, definitely...good for them. Especially since they might be signing my paychecks next season ;)

I do know that JD Power awards are a scam. You buy them for $50K + % of company value. We've been offered to purchase awards many times over the years.

ford put more vehicles into the top 3 than any other manufacturer.

as for manufacturers, unfortunately, you can't buy a generic honda. you get an accord or a civic. so, maybe ford-branded cars in total aren't so good as toyota-branded cars in total, but that doesn't keep the fusion from beating the pants off the 4 cylinder camry, at least in the initial going.

I have to say that 120 problems out of 100 vehicles is not bad but there's room for improvement.
Most German luxury cars have a pretty bad record comparatively.

And that proves what?

They're corporate average is 120 problems per vehicle. The best performer on the chart is at 91.

If I have 8 classes and I get a report card that shows 4 A's, that's pretty good. But it's a totally different story if the other 4 classes are C, D, D, D.

But let's my friend gets 2 As and 6 Bs. Who's looking better?

BTW, if you're gonna claim the Miata as a "win" for Ford, you better own up to Mazda's next to last place showing on the list :p

Kick Mazda off the list, screw the Miata and I bet Ford's average drops :p

There was an article posted a while ago regarding the quality of Mazda 3 rims and their lack of protection against drive thru curbs.

again, i don't buy just a brand, i buy a particular car in that brand. i want an A, and i don't mind if it comes from a company that averages a B+, instead of getting an A- from a company that averages an A-.

they only give awards to the winners in the category.

and when i say 'ford' that includes not just the blue oval (10th), but also lincoln (3rd), jag (6th), mercury (8th) and the two tail-draggers, mazda and land rover.

again, you don't buy brands, you buy cars. miata won it's segment (against what competition, i'm not sure, solstice?)

hey, i'm looking at buying a ford. considering the experience i had with the Ford Windstar, one would think i would stay clear, but i'm liking where the edge is going and if it is anywhere near the quality of the Fusions, it will be a good vehicle.

The Edge is a really nice vehicle. I'd go with the Edge if I only needed seating for 5, but I'd take it's platform mate -- the Mazda CX-9 -- if I needed a third row.

yup. but since i already have a minvan in the stable and there will rarely be more than just me and mb a coworker in my vehicle, mostly i'm using it to take my tools, mb pc's mb servers to client sites, this is the perfect vehicle for me.

occasionaly if i really need to, i can seat my family of five in this car too.

The PERCEPTION of better quality is still the rule.

I read a stat about how the Toyota Matrix is far outselling the Pontiac Vibe in part because consumers think it is a better quality vehicle and are even willing to pay more for it!!

The Matrix and the Vibe are built in the same plant with the same parts and by the same workers.

they're not in the same group. camry's group was won by the mercury milan. and the 4 cylinder camry is the worst vehicle toyota makes according to consumer reports. so, no, it's not surprising at all that the camry didn't win its group.

The CX-7 does not offer 3rd row seating, the CX-9 does. I really liked the CX-7 when we test drove it.

Well thats good I suppose. I always wondered if by IQ they mean how well the car is put together or how good the quality of the interior materials are...

Er, I meant to say CX-9. I was telling myself "don't type CX-7, it uses a turbo 4 and drinks premium" yet I still wrote it :p

That's pretty much what it is. The problems can range from wind noise and interior quality (is it already falling to pieces?) to the brakes failing.

I'm not sure if they weight certain things though. I mean, a little wind noise is a bit better than the transmission dropping dead.

Hummer usually gets knocked on the IQS because of gas mileage.
