I'm in the process of deciding between the two...its for a Prelude 1997 model. 6.5" front and 6x9 in the back. JL AUDIO 10W3v2 will be added also. Anyone have any experience with the latest versions of these speakers?

It depends what you want. Infinity Kappas sound better than the Reference, but they cost more. I don't think you can beat the Reference at their price point, I have two 6.5" in my car and they sound great...only cost me $65. Don't have any experience with JBL though.

Please tell me you mistyped that - $65 apiece means $130 for a pair of 6.5" Infinity References. I paid $50 for my 652i's

Never had experience with the bottom of the line JBL's but the References are great for the money

GTO's are good speakers, inexpensive, and perform well. Infinity's are better, but cost much more.

never tried jbl, but infinity sounds pretty good. their newer lines have pretty big magnets, didn't fit for my civic doors:p rears are never a problem of course:)

Whoops! Yes, I did. I bought 6.5" Reference for the rear and 4" Kappas for the front, and those two sets cost me $65 apiece.

Well I have in my car (96 camry)....Pioneer 6.5" in front (TS-A1655) and some old ('97) JBL GTO 6x9s. Sounds great....and the JBLs did all the bass work until I got my JL10w0s in the trunk. Thats why I was considering JBLs....from my own experience.

i've had the older model jbl gto's before and now have the reference 605cs components. I prefer the sound of infinity over the jbl's, also the 605cs have a higher sensitivity rating. The references have much better bass & high's compared to the gto's i use to have. But the gto's are coax and i now have comps, so there's already a major difference right there. Then again, u'll have to listen to them for urself.

Infinity usually sounds better especially if you're driving them with a decent amp. Never heard the JBLs so I can't say, however you're probably better off with the Infinity. Then again, we're talking low end here. If you're not gonna amp take a look at Pioneer, they sound pretty good driven off the head unit.

If you ever decide to spend a little more or have a quality amp to drive your fronts, look at Diamond M361I and Crystal CSx615. CDT makes good coax too but they're more expensive, at that point you're better off going component and getting Focal or MB Quart.

I've got some top-of-the-range Infinity Kappa's from a few years back, 6.5 inch components.

For the price (they were £200, so near enough $300 back then) I wouldnt have anything else :)

Come highly recommended. The Reference stuff is good against the competition.

Note: If you are bothering with better speakers may I suggest buying a small amp to complement them? The HeadUnit's internal amp would be about the size of a finger and wont give them their full potential :)

Are you amping you front rears???

My advice, only replace the front speaker and get some good MB Quarts!

Need your amp scheeme to give you a beter idea.

I have a set of the Infinity Reference 6.5 inch separates in my truck. They are true separates; sep midbass and tweeter and crossover. I paid $110 for them at Sounddomain.com. They will handle a lot of power (rated at 90 watts RMS) and sound clean. The tweets are very bright, but luckily the crossover has connections for both 0db and -3db for the tweet.

I really like them. MHO.

kinda off question, did u have to cut a hole to mount the tweeters? i kinda want to get a set of those, but my lousy civic doesn't have top mounts:p how hard is it really?

my reference 5x7s dont put out ANY bass. I have to turn my hu to -8 for bass just to make the speakers not even try. My subs are the only bass I need, but without subs i wouldnt recommend the references.

edit: I just read that youre putting a sub in (10w3 is a decent one too) so then I think I would recommened the references. For voices and music theyre great, just not for bass.

This is for a Prelude(97 model) .

Pioneer DEH-P7400MP for the Headunit. Most likely Infinity reference series (6.5" front, 6x9 back). JL 10W3v2 in sealed box with a Sony XM-2150GSX amp running it mono....which is 380watts@4ohms......but since I'm gonna get 10W3v2 D6 it'll run @3ohms........I know components are superior to what I'm suggesting for the car....but since I'm not gonna have an amp running the internal speakers I think it'd be fine. Thanks for your suggestions.....I guess its Infinity Reference series.....

The listening volume isn't going to be insanely high...where I'll be pushing the amp to its max constantly......and I read a lot of bad stories about sony amps....but I have the same one running in my camry and its a perfect match for the two 10W0 subs. All these parts are by no means the top end.....but its just a moderate upgrade from factory stuff. Does anyone else have any experience with that particular Sony amp?? Or something similar?? I just got it for my camry and its quite a bargain considering I paid $100 for a new one off eBay.
