that 1st cop is a twerp desperate to flex some muscle. notice how he escalates the situation in order to maintain the initiative in a confrontation of his choosing. the longer this drags out, the more likely the perp will say or do something that satisfies the conditions needed to beat the fuck out of someone with court approval.

If you committed a crime or a police officer has reasonable suspicion you are committing a crime, you are required to show them ID. This guy jaywalked, the police officer asked for ID, he resisted :S

But I'm sure the police haters will swarm anyways. Also screaming "CALL YOUR SUPERVISOR" 100 times in 10 minutes should be a crime :D

They should have stomped that guy like rodney king and duct taped that woman's mouth shut. Is it a wonder why these things sometimes escalate to a real beat down and possible death? I could never have that much patience as those cops.

No, he was tased for resisting arrest, after the police were extremely lenient with him and gave him every opportunity to submit.

He was arrested for failure to provide ID when being issued a citation.

Loud mouth should have been arrested for interfering with police business.

Less than half of the states require citizens to identify themselves to peace officers, and even in those states verbally providing one's name and address is sufficient. No state requires a person to carry or show written identification, except when driving.

1) Jaywalking is a ticketable offense if the officer wishes to pursue it.
2) Identification is needed to issue a ticket.
3) Without ID, the unidentified person will be taken to and processed at the police station.

There is nothing new here. Teenagers are aware of such rules regarding public infractions and the need for identification.

The resistance created the need for the officer to maintain control.

Manimal... your awesome. Nyan cat is just the way to go.

I think in this situation the officer is most at fault for escalating this situation. There are much better ways of being persistent and getting what you want... which in this case is I.D.
He was trying to create a situation. Trying to get this arrest. I suspect prior involvement between the man arrested and the cop who mainly instigated it.

In either case, this man, with his evidence on camera, very well could have fought this in court on the basis of his arrest. If he just eventually cooperated. But, he refused because it is his right. The police saw his refusal as resisting arrest and became even more aggressive.

Also, for the whole "Why are you nervous? Your legs are shaking!" Umm.. you just fucking tazed him four times you, douchbag. You'd be shaking too!

How's it his right to refuse to ID himself? He wasn't just randomly stopped and asked for ID. He was stopped for committing an infraction which is a citable offense there. To cite you need to ID. Whether an actual ID or verbally IDing he wasn't doing either. He took a stand for what he thought his rights were, he thought wrong.

That guy was so retarded. He committed an infraction so wanting to see his ID is perfectly justified.
Also can't the police ask you for your ID just because they want to? Maybe they're looking for a criminal who looks similar to you.
I don't like tasers though, they get used when there are other ways to stop a man without risking to give him an heart attack.

So basically this is one of those "I know the law better than you, pig!"-situations gone wrong, because he didn't know the law better than the police?

Too bad, asshole, guess you should've just showed them your idea.

They were both idiots. However, the guy committed an infraction, show ID and move on.

I think tasers have made cops too reliant on them. The guy was not a threat and honestly I didn't seem him escalating anything until the taser came out. He was resisting passively and I don't see that as a cause to use a taser.

To me, I see the police using a taser as a punishment, rather than a device to protect themselves.

The guy in the video is a douche, and the arrest was justified, but the use of a taser just shows these cops have no skills in handling people and instead just hope fear of the taser will get them though the day.

The guy committed an infraction and was required by law to show ID as explained CLEARLY by the cop. It's so simple. He deserve everything he got.

Your point of view is so simplistic. Obviously the guy is irrational for escalating the situation this far and why should the cops put themselves at risk? How do you suggest the cop should have subdued him? They can't just let him walk away.

It's tough to take someone down without hurting them or the cop getting hurt. It's easy to put the guy in a rear naked choke, but that's illegal, so.....it's safer to just use a taser.

As for the video, the cop should have tasered the guy and shot the woman in the face. Holy shit, she was annoying.

There is no requirement in FL, as in most states, to show photo ID to the police at all. The only mention of having to produce ID in FL is having to identify yourself if questioned by a cop in reference to loitering. (FL statue [SIZE=-1]856.021-Loitering or prowling). Otherwise, outside the usual places/times you need photo ID---driving a car, etc.---showing ID is not required in that state. You don't even need to identify yourself.

In fact, I don't know of a state that requires its citizens to carry photo ID at all times and have to present it upon being asked. Please, don't bring up driving a car.....that's just silly as we all know you have to have a driver's license at that time.

But passengers in a car are not required to have photo ID at all. Neither are you required to carry it while walking down the street, sitting in your yard, while buying something in a store (that doesn't have an age requirement like alcohol, cigarettes, paint, etc.).
