Jay-Z - Blueprint 3

Our economy is in a recession but the current state of Hip-hop is nothing short of a deep depression, will Jay-Z and Blueprint 3 restore the luster? Are we destined to listen to busters spouting off about "stanky legs" and getting "wasted?" I'm tired of the Soulja Boys and OJ the Juice Mans squeeking "hey!"

Blueprint 3 from Rhapsody - give it a listen

I'll give it a listen. Jay-Z is one of my favorite rappers, though he isn't exactly the best for a positive message to his music.

Sad to say it, but most musicians are not role-models, rather story tellers. However, if you want some positive music from Jay-Z, listen to the track titled "anything" or Nas' lyrics to "Thug Mansion."

So is he like the Brett Farvererre of rap?

Nah, he's more like the Michael Jordan of hip-hop.

Hmm, I'd say he has the "returning after retirement" air of Favre or Jordan, but the relative ability and status of Peyton Manning.

I'm more tired of Jay-Z's big fuggin lips in my face in his adds or on his cd covers ..., damn.

#7 is way outside of what he usually dose, raw. It has a real west feel to it.

He tried to do the same with #10 and #13 but didn't quite get it IMO, a little TOO on the monotonous side and not " cool ", just, " different ".

His stuff is too introspective, he bores the sh*t out of me; but at least he's trying to give that " I don't give a f*k " impression about himself in a more liberal fashion.

I respect his work over the years, but I've never admired much of it.

That's the one thing I didn't quite like about his music.
We get it, Jay, you're awesome and you beat the odds.

He's always been talented, though, especially as a producer.

HOVI'S HOME!

Nas is so much better than JZ it's not even funny, but I'll check out BP3 for the beats and basslines.

Nas and Jay-z is like Big and Pac. While Big and Pac is like oranges vs. apples. Luckily, I'm not too biased when it comes to good hip-hop or music in general, good music is good music to my ears.

Is comparing Nas and Jay-Z to fruits your subtle way of calling them gay?

Nah.

By the way, your posts, and sig make me laugh - no ill will 🙂.

If you compare Nas and Jay well, Nas's upcoming album coming out later this year where he'll be teaming up with Damien Marley is just gonna kill kill kill.

On that note though I was really expecting to hear Nas on BP3, especially when the tracklist was first released they said he was featured on Empire state of mind... now that would have been the best track automatic.

Don't mind me, I'm just being my usual sarcastic self; I didn't assume you meant me any ill will. At least, any more than I assume of anyone, which is a lot, because I know they're all out to get me...

Meh. Boring.
Brother Ali's next album comes out around the same time.

I had no idea Brother Ali had a new album due. I'm a huge fan, so no doubt I'll end up picking this up. Thanks!

Eminem tops them all in terms of lyrical skill, delivery, and content. If he didn't fuck around so much he'd be untouchable.

I was so happy to hear his diss to Mariah after her video for "Obsessed"....that's the Eminem I want, the guy that slaps people around and makes them think twice before saying his name.

Nas and Tupac round out my top 3, FYI.
