And cooling... how do you think the tank kept it cool? I'm sure he'll have no problem with an open-hood, air-cooled setup.
they were good engines, and people have put them in cars before (no link, but I've read of a guy that shoehorned a merlin into a car, don't remember what make, anddrove it for a while until it finally caught fire in germany).
But they are aircraft engines, designed to operate at a more or less constant speed with steady high speed airflow through the radiators at all time. They would not do well in an automotive application.
