Jay Leno returning to Tonight Show, Conan gets the boot.

Well, I was going to address the "Conan got screwed" comments but I'm just going to say this.......

I feel bad for Conan because if I were him I'd feel like I lost the opportunity of a lifetime......HOWEVER.....

This is life.

California being an "at will" state aside........ he lost ratings, Jay lost ratings and despite the fact that it means some people get dumped....it's just how the cookie crumbles.

I know that's how it is in my line of work and there is definitely no 7-figure severance for me at the end of it.(Heck, aside from unpaid vacation probably NO SEVERANCE) I walk. I find my own "next job" and that's all there is to it.

If Conan regretted ever starting the Tonight Show, I might feel worse, but I'm sure he'd not give it back for the world. It was a try, it failed. Turn the page.

I feel sorry for him having to give up one of the greatest opportunities of his lifetime (though I hope more and better befall him in the future) because he is an incredibly talented comedian/performer who obviously cares more about his fanbase than cashing checks.

As far as his financial situation goes, I too feel no sorrow for him, but more because he seems intelligent enough to get by in 7 months despite the situation... unlike your typical celebrity that might blow everything on diamond encrusted cell phones.

For all the conan fan boys in this thread; have you guys been able to say all this with conans balls in your mouth or did you have to take them out?

I love Conan Obrien, I think he is hilarious and the best late night talk show host. His show has always been the only one I have enjoyed watching. He got a shot at his dream but it didn't work out and now he is getting the boot. When ratings are bad, things get shut down, this is nothing new. It sucks that he is having his dream show taken away from him but in exchange he is getting a giant ass pile of money which he can add to what I'm sure is an already giant ass bank account. Conan will be back on the air again within the year, he is too good and has been on tv for too long to disapear because of this small issue. But, until he comes back, you guys need to find another dick to choke on.

The issue with the ratings is that NBC promised him two years to make it happen. It took Leno a little while to get an audience and if Conan and his entire staff has to move to LA, they deserve some sort of a period to gain a following.

Yeah Conan got screwed.
First you have a low rated 10pm show as a lead in.
And second, noone wants to sit there and watch another consecutive talk show.
Had Conan lost ratings with normal programming, then you can say its his fault but until then, NBC never have him the opportunity to succeed.
But nobody should feel sorry for him.
He got 45 mils for sitting on his @ss.

Looks like he was setup to fail then. Leno came on at 10PM, which drove people away. This hurt the news, which inevitably hurt The Tonight Show. Usually, shows like these take time to get back to the level of the previous host. By having the previous host host a crappy show that preceeded your own and sought to replace you is wholey unfair anyway you look at it. They should have given him time just like they gave Jay Leno time when he began to host The Tonight Show.
