Jay Leno returning to Tonight Show, Conan gets the boot.

LOS ANGELES - TMZ.com is reporting that Jay Leno is going back to his old job and Conan O'Brien might get left out in the cold.

According to TMZ, The Jay Leno Show will go on hiatus on Feb. 1 and after the Winter Olympics, Leno will once again take over The Tonight Show.
It is unclear what would then happen to current Tonight Show host Conan O'Brien.

TMZ says both O'Brien and Leno have been told of the changes.

This news comes on the heels of a report on FTVLive.com that said NBC had decided to cancel The Jay Leno Show due to poor ratings.

NBC has denied that rumor.

Many NBC affiliates say their local news has suffered by being behind Leno's poorly performing show.

In the Denver area, Jay Leno performs better than the national average and 9NEWS at 10 is still number one in its time slot.

yes they did. i do like how a lot less reserved Leno's new show is. but the whole leno/conan show moves was just stupid.

Conan numbers must be sucking air for them to move leno back to the tonight show.

leno was suckin air thats for sure. moving a dead brand aka leno back is just tarnishing everything else. they should have cut leno and left conan to grow. idiocy..leno is unwatchable now.

Such fail... if they go ahead with it, I imagine they might move conan to 12 and fallon to 1(since the sets have been torn down and rebuilt accordingly)... The issue is Leno and Conan will be in burbank haha and they can't just ship Conan back to NY. People are still just gonna stop watching altogether.

Conan's ratings in his time slot are a far cry from what Leno was getting. he's also getting beat by Letterman, which by and large, Leno never did.

after seeing his performance, I wouldn't worry about competing against Conan if I were NBC.

personally, I stopped watching Conan in the early 00's when I realized that he did the exact same jokes every single night... I haven't watched any late night shows in forever except the occasional snippet of Craig Ferguson (because he's on channel 2 and that's the default channel my tv turns onto). I'm just going by the ratings.

Having watched Conan in his first year he was very weak as a host, but he had some funny writers, namely Robert Smigel.

Fallon has had a better start in his first year than Conan did...
