Wait till the Iraqis find out about him...

Shi'ite Group to Boycott U.S. Talks on Iraq

"The Bush administration has appointed retired Lt. Gen Jay Garner to run civilian affairs in Iraq alongside the U.S. and British military presence. "

A little background on Garner:

"As the prospect of victory in Iraq comes closer, one name will soon become the focus of all controversy about American policy: Jay Garner, the retired US general waiting in Kuwait to become the first American administrator of post-war Iraq. The British Government will be watching General Garner with some trepidation, and not only because he is a close friend and political ally of Defence Secretary Donald Rumsfeld.

He is committed to hawkish policies in the Middle East, and an outspoken supporter of Ariel Sharon's policies in Israel, closely linked to a Right-wing Israeli lobby. And his appointment throws a huge question mark against Tony Blair's promise to renew the peace process in the Middle East."

"Intelligence Review magazine reports that General Garner has strong ties with prominent personalities in the camp of pro-Israeli hawks in Congress, and that he has ties with the Jewish Institute for National Security Affairs (JINSA). Garner was one of 26 military men who visited Israel recently, who issued a statement that stressed the importance for the United States of the Jewish state's security, and said that a strong Israel represents a reserve that military planners and political leaders in the United States can count on."

I'm not saying Garner is a good or bad choice since I don't know enough about him, but does anyone really think the Bush League isn't going to find some way to fvck this up?

This is all you need to know..

"SCIRI, which is based in Tehran and dominated by Iraqi Shi'ites, is one of the largest single groups in opposition to Saddam. It has taken part in meetings with other groups but has always been wary of cooperation with the United States. "

I read Garner lead a Kurdish relief effort after '91. He's also a rabid anti-Palestinian, supposedly.

Placing the wrong people in the wrong positions may quickly negate all the hard work done thus far. Now comes the tough part...

Isn't it a little early to start talking how the "Bush league" is going to screw up post war Iraq? I guess since it turns out that all the second guessing of Bush, Cheney, Rumsfeld and their war plan was "much ado about nothing", some people feel the need to now try and hammer them on something else. Typical......

Hey, they've screwed up all the support we had after 9/11, the economy, our rights, and international diplomacy. They are now batting .200 with the war, I'm just going with the odds.
