If you have Sun Java Runtime installed, update to Java Runtime Environment (JRE) 6 Update 3 to fix some significant vulnerabilities. Uninstall all previous versions, rebooting if necessary.
If you have JRE installed, but really have no idea why, I'd suggest uninstalling it until such time as you actually find uses for it. If it isn't there, it can't be exploited, period. And the bad guys do misuse Java capabilities, given the chance.
Also, obligatory mention of the Secunia Personal Software Inspector, an easy-to-use freebie checkup tool that looks for vulnerabilities and provides download links to the fixes. screenshot :camera:
