Java not working Anymore?

I have windows XP and I installed SP1a to get updates and Java support. Everything worked fine for some time but now it does not work I just get the red x in the java box. Here is my typical java site although there are others. A simple online speed test. All I see is an x in the image window.

I would like to somehow reinstall or repair or reactivate the MS java and I don't want to install sun's java seperately as it is slow and has bugs. For instance on the test site, the botom portion of the image is not displayed and replaced with a grey bar and the same with other images on oother scites so unless I can be sure the Sun java works I don't want to install it.

Thanks

I found myself in the same spot after installing XP Pro on my my machine. There seem to be many sites that use flavors of java that the MS version just can't handle. My example is the applets for Yahoo's games.

I did go ahead and install the latest version of Sun java just today (and I do get that gray bar you mentioned on your example), and the Yahoo applets now work.

I too would be interested in any other way of fixing this problem.

Althogh I don't like the Sun java I still installed because I need it and it still does not work. I still have the same x where the applet should be. Anybody know what could be going on?

Thanks

No, the XP firewall is dissabled and I don't have anything else like that. Java was working a while ago. I there something or some way it could have been dissabled?

Thanks aggain.
