java in vista ?

Pretty much.

You can try going without it, but i'm sure you'll eventually run into something that requires it.

Java is fine in Vista,I have had no issues over the last 20 months or so ,no real reason not to have it installed especially since its free.

I actually don't install Java anymore and never find sites that require it, either. I see no reason. If a site has java content, I'm more than happy not seeing the content. I was never a big fan of the java updater and all that other crap either.

On a fresh install, I usually wait until I come across something that needs it... which is approximately never.

I've had Vista on my main desktop PC for about seven months now and I haven't had any reason to install Java.

This is why I caveatted my statement by saying if you like content on the web. That is really the only thing I see Java as useful for, and even then 95% of the time most web pages work fine without Java. (Or when using the NoScript extension in FF.) I prefer to have it for those times when it is needed for content I want to see on sites that I trust. For the rest, I use NoScript to block scripting from working.

think ill just wait till i need it, sloppy updater leaving older versions and something else to have to update.
