Java applet and OCX control crashing web server?

I have a java applet and a couple of MS supplied OCX controls on my web page, and my host said those were crashing the server. Can that happen? I thought OCX are downloaded and run on the PC requesting the page, and java is interpreted on the PC too. Did I miss something or my new host is just full of it? Any input is greatly appreciated. Thank you.
