Java 8 Update 161 available

Although it was released on the 16th mine just automatically updated so I thought that I would share that an update was available.

They also have Java 8 Update 162 out -- you can get that one here:

I did install Java 8 Update 162 on my Toshiba Laptop with Windows 10 Home 64 ... but it did not want to install on my Dell 8200 XP PRO SP3 computer ... The installer closes almost immediately ... it worked fine on Java 8 Update 151 .. not sure why that is -- perhaps someone here can find a solution to this problem

My official installer doesn't see that update so I followed your link and grabbed it.

Any ideas on how to fix the "installer closes immediately" in XP PRO SP3 ? ? Java runtime should install on it.

Mine came auto-magically via the Notification area. It seems harmless so far.

That was how I was notified, but I usually check manually once a month or so. But as I mentioned above, it will not run the installer on XP .. it just closes it. Not sure how or if this can be fixed.

I know technically it is not supported. But all the way to Java 8 Update 151 installed fine on XP -- If it could not work, why not show an error message saying why it will not install ?

Software is complex. When Oracle said Java is no longer supported, it means that they don't test the software on Windows XP platform.

Maybe the installer itself used by Java has changed somehow to cause it not compatible with XP anymore, so the installer process either dies or hangs there, but since they didn't test it on XP, meaning they didn't know there's a problem.

Any specific reason you need to have newest Java on XP?
