Jascha Heifetz

DO you know of any other violinists that match heifetz ?

Perlman seems too emotional ...That other guy sucks too. THey go off on these tnagents that not only change the original music, but plain suck. I hate the hollow sound from their violins too:| I bought my violin on the basis that i hate the hollow sound of MANY violins. Mine sound srich and soothing, while not as overbearing as some of the "deeper" sound POS violins I have been forced to listen too in many albums.

I'll admit heifetz is known to be a total technical master with a lack for feeling and emotion in his playing, but I seriously cannot find anything of his calliber.....he maybe be technical, but it is GORGEOUS.

His RCA Victor rendition of SIbelius' Converto in D puts tears in my eyes everytime I hear it ( a lot)..the prokofiev is ridiculously good too.

Maybe I'll check out some more RCA Victor TItles...problem is I don't know which ones to get...opinions?

THey are expensive too... :disgust:

I used to play violin. Then I learned my lesson and started playing the drums. 😉

I also play the sax....That is on par with the drums....😀

I highly doubt it. A drummer is the only musician that deaf people can appreciate. 😉

I don't think I've ever heard Heifetz. I never really cared for Perlman, but I do remember I liked Isaac Stern - I don't have anyrecordings of his though. I used to really be into classical music, but I was mostly interested in piano.

I want clips of Heifetz.. I've never heard his play... but I'm one of the types of people that considers emotion in music to be bullsh!t. Music is inherently technical. Get a computer that produces music good enough technically, and emotion will come with it.

Heifetz is unreal. But so was Issac Stern. BTW, Perlman can play things that are not so emotional too. He's a master in his own right.

That's what they said at Darmstadt, and look how well that turned out.

I haven't heard a Heifetz (sp?) recording in a long time, but this crap about his playing being overly technical is lame. He had no stage demeanor, as I understand it, i.e. people were bugged-out by his complete calm on stage. Sorry, folks, you don't need to do the damned macarena on stage for me to think you play with emotion. Listen to the music, dang it. Anyhow, I have a recollection of hearing a recording of him playing an unaccompanied violin partita of JS Bach which completely blew me away.

So have you ever heard recordings of Fritz Kreisler playing? (sp?) He was amazing too, an incredibly warm tone, as I recall it.

Sweet, thanks. THe reason I mentioned the lack of "emotion" is because I have heard it a lot. I agree with the poster that mentioned that emotion is not the key to playing.

Heifetz IMO is so good because he forgoes his own emotions and plays the piece as it was intended; then again I honestly think the emotion is a natural result of technically mastery, just as someone else mentioned.

I will check out that guy......

You are obviously not a musician even after 10 years of "lessons"

As for someone as good as Heifetz, the young guns out there now still need a few decades before we start to hear any buzz about them......I dont think theres much wrong with Perlman . Heifetz was a ground breaker

Damn...

I stumbled into this thread hoping it was some hot foreign model I've never heard of before, and plenty o' pics would be posted.

🙁

THer is nothing essentially wong with Perlamn. I just don't enjoy his playing, as it IMO detracts from the piece.

He will add crescendos....increase/decrease the tempo etc, and I am not a fan of that.

Heifetz IMO is very neutral and I love that.

I'm not a classical player by any means, but I've been listening to classical music since the cradle (literally) but in recent years I've really started to differentiate between recordings and the like, plus I just got a year or two of music theory under my belt.
Perlman, to my ear, is an exquisite player - sure he varies himself from the music a bit, sometimes to its detriment, but overall I think he adds to pieces more often than not. The best Perlman recording I've ever heard, which may be biased by the movie itself, was his playing on the Schindler's List soundtrack. The first time I heard it, right after I watched the movie, it almost brought me to tears (again.) But that may be by association to the music.
However I can clearly say that Heifitz was, and hopefully will be for a long time, the best violin player I've ever heard (plus I saw a video of his.) His stoic playing was so contrasting to the emotion I felt when I heard him - maybe because he was both playing the music as it was written, but subtly adding his own feeling to it, but not even showing it. No movement, no rocking - just pure beauty.
/me puts on some Heifitz right now.
