Japanese Windows

Anyone ever loaded Japanese Windows on U.S. computer hardware? I'm wondering is I can just buy a copy of Japanese Windows and load it on my desktop as a dual boot, or does computer hardware used in Japan have some quirks that would make Japanese Windows only operable on certain hardware configs?

While NEC machines often different from normal PC's, Windows will work fine on US hardware (btw, I'm presuming you mean XP?)

where can you find one? would it be any different from using english + language for non-unicode programs set to japanese? just curious, my japanese games seem to run fine like that.

I have. I used to dual boot Windows 98 with no problems. Legacy Japanese hardware (AKA PC-98 old NEC) was once a consideration but these days it's all the same hardware with perhaps the exception of a Japanese keyboard which has a few extra keys. The only problems that I experienced had to do with an English software program in a Japanese OS which distorted some dropdown menus probably because of the default roman fonts used by the J-OS. I'd imagine that XP has made some improvements since it's no problem using Japanese characters except where such characters are limited by the software programs themselves.
