Its pronounced as spelled in Japanese. You can also read it as Ama. It is also the "ten" in Nintendo. Sky in Japanese is Sora or Ko, completely different words and characters.

There are a lot of similar sounding words in Japanese to Chinese because obviously thats where the language originated. There are usually multiple ways of reading kanji or Chinese characters in Japanese, normally one Chinese which is monosyllabic and one or more Japanese.
