Is there anyone who could help me out with this? I am upgrading a Sony netbook from XP Home to XP Pro and have run into a snag -

The US eSupport Sony site has no drivers for this laptop.
The model number is: PCG-TR5B. It is made in Japan.
Enter that into the US site and it redirects me to the Japanese site at which point I am like a blind squirrel looking for a nut.

The closest US counterpart is the PCG-TR5AP. So far, all the drivers from the US one has worked EXCEPT one:

The damn webcam.

-The webcam shows up in device manager as "USB Device".

-Its hardware ID is USB/vID_054c&Pid_0107&Rev_0000 (although that probably won't help.)

If anyone can help me, it would be much appreciated.

Mods: If this belongs in a different place, my apologies.

Thought of that, the pages eventually end up with links made of images of japanese text.
Google can't touch that.

I think I've tracked down what it is though:

Sony Motion Eye Something something...anyone got a driver for that?

Looks right.

But it doesn't install. It gives me an error message:

Unable to launch C:\windows\driver\sonycap\sonycap.bat

Does that have something to do with the fact that particular driver is labeled for Windows 2000?

Well if your trying to use Vista or Win 7 then you will be luck if any drivers work. The driver structure of Vista and Win7 is differnt from XP and 2000 and won't work. I'm afraid you'll need to go back to using XP in order to have full use of your laptop. Sorry i didn't read your first post more carfully otherwise this could have been pointed out earlier. You may also find that your not going to have full benifit of your video card. Right now its probably running on some generic drivers the OS has built in.

Thanks for the wisdom. I'm well aware that going to Win 7 or Vista may require new/diff drivers....however,

I'm still using XP, the native O/S of this computer. It was "designed for windows XP" and Sony has all the drivers for its US counterpart right on the site. For XP, for Vista, even for 7...just not the webcam one.

What I was saying was, the driver you gave me, is labeled "For Windows 2000" and that's why I asked if maybe that was causing the error in XP.

I don't usually try and insult people who try and help, I understand you are taking the time to figure out a problem of mine....but please read my posts thoroughly. I mentioned I was still using XP in the first post.
