[[[EDIT: I would delete this post but I dunno how (or even if I can). I solved my own problem simply by updating my existing sound driver with the standard SigmaTel driver on the Dell support site for my system.]]]
Hiya,
I bought a Buffalo headset (part BSHSH03, specs linked here: http://buffalo-kokuyo.jp/products/multimedia/headset/headband/bshsh03/index.html )
They are Japanese (since I am living in Japan). However, my system is a Dell Inspiron 1520 from the USA.
The sound is great, no problem there. However, the microphone is too quiet to be heard (it is recording, but you have to strain to even notice the playback in a quiet environment). I've already checked all the usual control panel snags: muting, device selected/unselected, volume sliders up, mic boost etc. Can't seem to change it..
My previous headset (Plantronics) worked fine. My wife is Japanese and the headset's headphones and mic both work flawlessly on her Japanese laptop.
I am guessing there is some kind of sound driver incompatibility. The company (Buffalo) does not offer support to non-Japanese OS's, so I am kinda stuck there. Does anyone have any advice, or know some kind of driver pack that might help me? I can read some Japanese, and navigate pages with my wife's help.
My current sound device is a SigmaTel: SigmaTel High Definition Audio Codec, driver version 5.10.0.5401 according to the device manager.
Thank you for any guidance!
