Japan, what's wrong with you?

Okay, I was just doing a little research on my own after completing a lengthy paper on Japan, and I found out a bunch of things on Japan that greatly disturb me:

1) Japan has never apologized for World War II, and I believe they never will. Their Prime Minister apologized personally, but the government never acknowledged it..."the Japanese government continues to decline accepting full responsibility, offering formal apology, or paying compensation." -http://vikingphoenix.com/news/stn/1997/pirn9788.htm

Germany has apologized.

2) Japan is still teaching Revisionist history, A.K.A they are not teaching the whole truth of world war two. In school books today, World War Two is barely mentioned and unclear, or portrays Japan as a victim of Western agression. (I'm not joking) That's like denying Vietnam ever happened.

3) War criminals are still being honored by the Japanese to this very day. For instance, a certain general (forgot his name) that was held responsible for the countless killings of American and Chinese civilians is honored with wreaths on his tombstone on the anniversary of his death. I'd say that's as bad as honoring Hitler today.

4) It shocks me that so few people realize that the Japanese slaughtered countless Chinese during World War Two. In fact, the country with the greatest civilian casualties in World War Two are the Chinese after the Japanese invasion (about 35 Million civilians, not counting troops). Also, during the Japanese invasion, Japanese troops took "comfort women" (civilian women) and would systematically beat and rape them, allowable by the Japanese government. Numbers of "comfort women" are estimated to be from 10,000-20,000 or more in the Rape of Nanking (by the way, they also killed some 340,000 civilians during that 6 week period). Shockingly enough, Japanese political officials have denied that it ever happened. What??

What happened to that Japanese honor that is so often portrayed in many movies and books? Where is it now?
Japan is a whole freaken nation....actually the second most wealthy nation in the world, second only to the U.S.A. How can they dodge responsibility like this?

Edit: Russia has had the highest casualties out of any country if you combine the WWI and WWII casualties.

i think its that fact that even though we bombed them, they still don't want to admit weakness... that is why they do not want to apologise.

Its all the Pokemon's fault.

Beat the hell out of those little critters.

The nation with the highest causalities during WWII was Russia, not China. Famine killed more Chinese than WWII.
Also its due to Ruskis that WWII was won in Europe.

Also why bother with japan? Why not Mongolia ?

Ghenghis Khan's Mongol army masacrared 20-30 million chinese during his campaign for China..when they took over Peiking. And mind you during the Mongol era they had no bombs, no fire arms, no guns, no planes nothing liek WWII. Plain bows arrows and swords. So it must have been pretty bloody violent.

No one seems to bother the Mongolians anymore ..why ? They need to apologise :D

1) We apolgize to the interned Japanese Americans by giving em a few bucks back. But hey we apoligized right?

2) And what do you think our history book holds? America has never been wrong!

3) Yeah, and we honor people who masacred the native indians of America.

4) No comment. I don't know how the Japanese public thinks, but I'm sure Japanese Americans know.

You can always look from the outside and see all the faults of another. But when you're part of it, it's a lot different. History is different depending from who it is told from.

That, and the people today didn't live in that era. Odds are the younger generation know that Japan did wrong, and won't mention it. It's a black mark in history for them, and they generally don't discuss it.

A few days ago:
My Japanese Civ Prof: "While we will be covering Japanese history to modern times, I will not discuss World War 2 too deeply. It invovles two countries that I love and it pains me to-..." (well, not exact quote, but it's something like that)

Hrmmm... Never hear enough about Mongolia nowadays. If they were so important back in the day and kicked everyone's asses- why is it that we hear more sh!t out of some little piece of crap country like Canada than we do out of the once mighty Mongolia?

If it weren't for modern-day Japan, the stereotypical geek wouldn't be the same. Hmm...this reminds me of the RIT_theme.mp3 some guy posted here a while ago..

last time i checked, the genghis khan's party (did he even have one?) is not in power anymore. and i think he was talking about *civilian* casualties. famine has nothing to do with this... famine kills more people than in WTC, but that doesn't mean the WTC was not despicable.

furthermore, while brutal, i doubt their armies committed anywhere near as horrible atrocities as the japanese did. i never heard anything about mongolian scientists doing "experiements" on chinese civilians.

to ask "why japan" is like if one were to ask "why nazis".

1. America never apologizes for anything. Giving away money and not apologizing does not make it ok.

2. US History books are so white washed, it's unbelievable.

3. US celebrates Thanksgiving.

4. It shocks me that the US sent many soldiers to Vietnam without officially waging war. It shocks me that they don't give kick downs to certain vets. I'm very sure the soldiers never had their way with the vietnamese women either. Again, when Spain colonized most of the new world, they did NOT go with a bible in there hand. They tried to assimilate everybody.

thanks for your time.

Sid has a point there ya knw....

just varying points of view...and i knw a fellow japanese person..i mean japanese people are coool....he tells me that WWII stuff was of the country's bad times....not really touched on in school....also, most japanese of that era see is as more of a good wake up call of death...or...a punishment from heaven...for their imperialistic activities during the earlier part of the 20th century....(got that info by talking to this elder japanese dude in the plane...he sat next to me...yeah..)

America giving away money and not apologizng is better than the Japanese NOT apologizing and NOT compensating money. Why do we hold double standards against the Germans but not the Japanese? The Japanese should've done what the Germans did, apologize and accept the consequences. Germany did fairly well of teaching their kids what they've done wrong and not to repeat again but the Japanese somehow wants to cover it up. As for Asian countries worrying a Japanese military threat, it won't happen they don't have the capacity and dominance like before.
Well I guess we can't expect much from them since they're fvcking cowards to bomb Pearl Harbor without declaring war.
