Okay, I was just doing a little research on my own after completing a lengthy paper on Japan, and I found out a bunch of things on Japan that greatly disturb me:
1) Japan has never apologized for World War II, and I believe they never will. Their Prime Minister apologized personally, but the government never acknowledged it..."the Japanese government continues to decline accepting full responsibility, offering formal apology, or paying compensation." -http://vikingphoenix.com/news/stn/1997/pirn9788.htm
Germany has apologized.
2) Japan is still teaching Revisionist history, A.K.A they are not teaching the whole truth of world war two. In school books today, World War Two is barely mentioned and unclear, or portrays Japan as a victim of Western agression. (I'm not joking) That's like denying Vietnam ever happened.
3) War criminals are still being honored by the Japanese to this very day. For instance, a certain general (forgot his name) that was held responsible for the countless killings of American and Chinese civilians is honored with wreaths on his tombstone on the anniversary of his death. I'd say that's as bad as honoring Hitler today.
4) It shocks me that so few people realize that the Japanese slaughtered countless Chinese during World War Two. In fact, the country with the greatest civilian casualties in World War Two are the Chinese after the Japanese invasion (about 35 Million civilians, not counting troops). Also, during the Japanese invasion, Japanese troops took "comfort women" (civilian women) and would systematically beat and rape them, allowable by the Japanese government. Numbers of "comfort women" are estimated to be from 10,000-20,000 or more in the Rape of Nanking (by the way, they also killed some 340,000 civilians during that 6 week period). Shockingly enough, Japanese political officials have denied that it ever happened. What??
What happened to that Japanese honor that is so often portrayed in many movies and books? Where is it now?
Japan is a whole freaken nation....actually the second most wealthy nation in the world, second only to the U.S.A. How can they dodge responsibility like this?
Edit: Russia has had the highest casualties out of any country if you combine the WWI and WWII casualties.
