Why is it that all of a sudden a country which never gave a flying fucknut about soccer suddenly cant get enough of it?
And don't tell me its the babes either cuz I was just watching TV at the sports bar and I know god damn well that ain't it.

America doesn't care about soccer. America cares about winning... and right now we are WINNING!

Shens. I dont watch TV at all except when in a bar (which is rare) and I never recall people getting this excited over a womens sport or soccer, much less womens soccer. Something else is going on.
Maybe the fact Americans are fed up with the bullshit surrounding baseball and football, and that golf when never too popular with the nation as a whole.

You missed my point. US only watch during world cups when US is advancing, and in the past they usually don't advance.

Gah, why couldn't it finish in regulation. This game has me on edge.

I generally don't watch soccer, but I'll always tune in for the World Cup. I think it's because I get to cheer for the country as a whole, or something like that. It doesn't hurt that the US has been doing pretty well (as usual in women's, and I feel they are improving in men's).

Because some people don't enjoy soccer enough to watch it just for the sake of the sport, however when there is a tie to a certain team, it becomes more interesting to watch. Sounds pretty reasonable to me.

This actually sums up my feelings much better.

Is it just me, or is : women's soccer > men's soccer? Maybe I don't watch enough, but women are so much better to watch.

I agree completely. I much prefer women's soccer, partially because some of them are incredibly hot, partially because of what datalink said, it seems a lot less theatrical than men's soccer.

Wambach is frickin' amazing with those headers (and her teammates are great at getting the assists on target)

Also, Alex Morgan...

1. They're fun to look at. (Hope... yum)
2. They don't flop like a gutted fish everytime they get touched trying to pick up a yellow card.

Which is why I wanted Sweden to advance :( They still played the bronze though IIRC, so i guess it doesnt matter
