They certainly produced better quality stuff for a while until the rest of the world copied their ideas and caught up.
Also I think a lot of their success also came from a cheap labor force. Once their standard of living rose up to something similar to ours, i.e. their cheap labor force wasn?t cheap anymore, the world went else where looking for cheap labor. That is why everything now days seems to be ?made in China? Eventually China?s standard of living will increase and the world will again go looking for cheap labor.
