If we are to tell the Japanese " to save the whales". shouldn't we also tell the American's not to consume so much oil the planet has ? The whales would most likely be here but the oil will soon be gone.

There's a pretty big difference with natural resources that you purchase from other countries and eliminating a species from existence.

not all whale populations are endangered. i somehow doubt they are hunting the ones they do not believe are sustainable. course that is probably in dispute. atleast they eat it all.
unlike the other asian delicacies. such as cutting fins off sharks and tossing em over board..bleh. doing weird sh*t to endangered bears and tigers etc.

Minke whale stock is abundant (760,000 whales in the Southern Hemisphere), therefore Japan can take minke whales without depleting their stock. http://www.geocities.com/Athens/Styx/9189/whaligcon.html
its not exactly like the japanese are earth unfriendly. they are one of the most energy efficient countries around. their greenhouse emissions are some of the lowest out there per capita for industrialized countries. more so then europe, and certainly america. and under kyoto they are cutting even farther.

LOL funny how all the Americans are complaining here... when America is one of the biggest polluters in the world.
