<< Who gives a damn about whales? They're delicious. Gawd, we slaughter millions of cattle and everyone goes DINNER! Kill a freaking whale and people go ape sh-t. Are whales "cuter" than cattle or something? They're certainly not more "furry" than a cow. Ridiculous. >>

I've disagreed with you occaisionally, but this is the first time I've seen you post something truly assinine. I'm sort of disappointed.

<< The world whale population is stronger than it has ever been since the turn of the century. >>

Did you get this little factoid from a Japanese 'study'?

This is from a culture that "studied" medicine by exposing people to deadly diseases and disecting live humans. They "studied" bayonette and sword usage by stabbing unarmed prisoners. This is just another one of their "studies". The problem is they got off easy after WW2, without the lesson in humanity they really need, and without repenting.

for one thing, whales are extremely intelligent, social animals. Cows are not.

Two, you can raise cows on just about any piece of farmland in the world...whales? No.

Three, many whales are still endangered...cows are not..

Beef is a supply of food for millions of people all over the world.....whale meat is a specialty meal in several countries, easily done without.

Some of you are really idiots, or just like to make ignorant remarks. Sad to see such a great communication tool like the internet used for such mindless banter.

I'm not an idiot. I just want to taste a whale steak. What's so wrong with that?

BTW, I like my steaks grilled!

So that where the migration route were.

It kinda like how we studied the Buffalo migration patterns years ago.

this isn't "A" whale...it's 440 whales. I doubt that there are half as many whales in the oceans as there are cattle in the world

BTW, MacBaine go easy on statements like

<< I think they need a BIG reminder ... about 50 Megatons this time.. >>

How in the hell are they getting away with doing this under the guise of science. It's apparent that we know the truth, so why are we allowing them to kill and sell these endangered creatures? Why bother having laws if we are willing to bend them in such idiotic circumstances such as this?

Huh? Whales are as dumb as mammals come, spare of a mole or something. What is your basis for describing whales as "extremely intelligent", because that's what some Green Peace dork said on the Discovery Channel? lol!! I love the animal nuts, "Dolphins are extremely intelligent because they use pops, clicks, and whistles to communicate." HTF does that make them 'extremely intelligent', how else would they communicate - they evolved and live in the f-cking ocean!

Cows are not social? Why do cows live in herds...for the cumulative body warmth? Are you saying cows have no social structure?

I'm sure there were a lot of guilt-ridden beef and veal dinners served for a few weeks after American movie-goers oggled and ahhed over that cute little calf Billy Crystal befriended in the movie 'City Slickers'. Nobody was going as far as to say that cows 'extremely intelligent' because they thought it was cute.

So you saw 'Free Willie' and you think whales are cute, does that mean you get to arbitrarily take away a traditional food source for an entire culture of people? Should Hindus get to decide what Americans eat?

If it was reall for a scientific study I do not think that they would need to kill that many unless the study was lets see how many whales we can kill on our 6 month "expedition"

They want to eat them, make cosmetics and oil products etc. damn shame these people can't grow away from this kind of consumption.

huh? if you learn about some like the dolphin you'll find that they are extremely intelligent.(relatively of course) being able to work in packs and having social structures more advanced then lowly cows:p just watch a group work together to round up schools of fish into swirling tight balls so they are so close together they start to suffacate.. then take turns feeding from this ball. as for their simple clicks, they aren't as simple as that. :pone click somes the same as the next to us.. of course.. but that doesn't mean much scientifically. u should know that.

your being disengenious. cows are almost retarded. they are bred to be that way for our benifit.

theres a difference between animals which we totally control in every aspect and those that we pull from the wild. the oceans aren't setup to mass produce whales for our consumption.. as indicated by the ones that are now endangered. We don't even farm the critters.. if we did.. i don't think i would have much problem with eating them. veal? i don't mind veal. i don't go out of my way to eat it, but i don't see much wrong with it as long as the animals are treated humanely. and speaking of humanely.. the bloodbath that is wild whale hunting is anything but humane:p

Ah, IC now. Killing and eating relatively dumb, smelly, and ugly critters - ok. Killing and eating comparatively smart and cute critters - EVIL! What a solid basis upon which to take away a culture's traditional food source.

Sooner or later, someone will happen upon the subtle and unseeming intelligence of the Herford. Not long after, a movie will be made depicting a boy (hero) befriending a benevolent and intelligent cow, and tries to save it from the evil butcher (villain). Then we'll all be in trouble.

i didn't say that at all in my last post.

sustainable killing of animals = good. humane treatment = good.

whale hunting as done so far generally not sustainable.

hunting smarter animals not so optimal, but thats a personal thing. for instance i'd probably eat a cute little bunnie b4 a dolphin:p

take a look at studies on animal intelligence. the more we learn, the less separate or distinct we seem to be.:p

<< whale hunting as done so far generally not sustainable. >>

Commercial whale hunting as done in the first half of the 20th century is not sustainable. Regulated commercial whale hunting as done today can be sustainable.

as with any kind of hunting. yes it can of course. but it depends on all countries involved to make a geniune effort as these creatures migrate:p also the industry doesn't have a very good record on following regulations anyways. just look at dolphin safe tuna, from what i remember the label is now a joke:p

in comparison, cows .. i don't think they'll ever become endangered:p

Gracie is pregnant.

just noticed ur post.. hah! i just watched Startrek IV DVD yesterday:)
