Aren't you an anarcho-capitalist (based on your avatar?). Murray Rothbard would be rolling in his grave at your comment :p

Japan's population is 20 times that of Indiana (more than 1/3rd of America) so that's a weird comparison. Are you saying our government would work better if we all packed ourselves into a small portion of America's landmass or something?

Pardon me for thinking for myself. ;)

But no, that's not what I am saying at all. It's a small country with, like you said, quite a large population. The entire nation is susceptible to damage from earthquakes and tsunami's. What's right for Japan isn't necessarily right for the US. I'm not one to tell other nations how to live, I'm not one to tell other states how to live either. It's easier for people to demand lawful change the more local the law. California and their success in legalizing medical marijuana is a perfect example.

Those facebook comments are fucking hilarious!!!!!! :awe:

How dare you laugh! They are expressing honest Christian values of never-forgive-never-forget! God may have to forgive the Japanese, but he will also forgive our unwillingness to forgive them!

The death toll will likely be in the thousands.

170km offshore, tsunamis move at over 800km/h. They had 15 minutes of warning at best.

I feel for them :(

Estimates of over 10k now already... :(

Wouldn't it be an idea to make artificial hills near the coastal towns so that the people there can at least flee up the hills when a tsunami alarm sounds?

The wave took all of maybe two minutes to reach them and the earthquake seemed to go on forever. I doubt anyone could have climbed a hill in the middle of an earthquake in under two minutes.

It looks like i lost my bet, numbers still say 8.8 to 9.1 for the magnitude of the quake. I don't think it will be downgraded below 8.8.

Instead of feeling sorry for the people of Japan, I'm going to use this tragedy to score cheap political points.

Cheap is good. Cheap government, cheap Walmart goods, cheap politics, I just love cheap things.
