Japan extends historic military deployment to Iraq
Tokyo, Dec. 9: Japan today extended a troop deployment to Iraq for another year despite public unease about the mission which broke the country's post-World War II taboo against using its military in an overseas war zone.
Prime Minister Junichiro Koizumi, a close ally of US President George W. Bush, broke with the growing number of countries that have pulled troops from Iraq where an insurgency shows little sign of abating, an agency report said.
