I don't get it. So do you people want the Iraqis to take over for foreign troops or not? I hear cries for withdrawal every day, yet when Japan pulls 600 of its troops out and turns it over to the local Iraqis, suddenly its a collapse of our coallition? Honestly, it's pretty pathetic.

Japan will begin withdrawing troops from Iraq in March and complete the pullout by May, ending its largest military mission since World War II, a news report said Tuesday.

Another country leaves. So much for the Coalition of the Willing.

GG.

This gives opportunity to Islamic radicals like mOeeOm. This gives them more ammunition to come out and attack us. Islamic radicals are watching our every move and how we react. They are watching each of our political moves.

This phony war on terror is still a war, even though its phony in many ways.

---

You are accusing mOeeOm of criminal acts. Unless you have direct proof that he is an Islamic terrorist, such acusations are inappropriate on our forums.

Yep, that is what Osama would say.

Good to know where you stand.

What'd they have, as dozen troops over there?

I think its more symbolic than anything else. It showed Japan's support for America. The Japanese population probably pressured their government to pull out.

excellent diversionary tactic...i commend you on your skills for spouting BS....

yea..anyway... the reality is that while we want a pull out, the fact that the japanese left has nothing to do with the success of the "mission" , and you know bush doesnt want people to leave because it makes him look bad when his administration refuses to start a pullout of our own

Good. Everyone should go back home, and stop being expected to die for a country thats not theirs. Let the people who live there who "want" freedom fight for it.

Osama and al-qaeda have focused their attention on Iraq. The major terror gangs around the world look at Iraq as the main area of conflict. Iraq is being mentioned in these released tapes.

Osama would like the coalition to pack their bags and go home, and so do you.

I thought Osama wanted a "truce" of vague to no timeframe so Iraq could be rebuilt.

A truce with Osama? What nation does he represent? Does he represent all of Islam? Or is that in his mind only?

A voluntary exchange is only possible if both sides benefit. If we gain something from this in the long term, then we should look into it. It doesn't appear that this "truce" has much validity to it.

So you only care that Japan is pulling out to make Bush look bad, not because they are actually leaving. I see where your priorities lie...

I'm glad you mentioned it, because Osama and al-Qaeda had zero interest or presence in Iraq before the war started. Couple that with the fact that we've recovered zero WMDs, and we can sum up Japan's withdrawal as an admittance of the truth.

The war is a sham.

Diversionary tactic? I'm merely putting what is happening into perspective, as the original post gives a very narrow and one-sided view on the withdrawal.

http://search.japantimes.co.jp/cgi-bin/nn20060131a7.html

The Ground Self-Defense Force will withdraw from southern Iraq by the end of May as Britain and Australia pull their forces out of the area under a plan agreed to by the United States, government sources said Monday.

At the same time, Japan is considering expanding the Air Self-Defense Force's Kuwait-based mission in response to Washington's request for more assistance in airlifting U.S. soldiers and supplies to and from bases in Iraq, the sources said.

The roughly 600 GSDF troops in the city of Samawah will begin to pack up in mid-March. The GSDF camp will not be dismantled and Japan plans to hand the facility over to local residents, according to the sources.

So the coalition is collapsing all of the sudden? The left cries for withdrawal. A time-table for withdrawal is agreed upon. Japan begins to withdraw as is stated in the timetable, while at the same time considering expanding their air role. The left cries that the coalition is collapsing.

Diversionary tactic indeed.

QFT! you took the words right out of my mouth!

trust me when i say this: Japan is still VERY MUCH on our side in this war on terror. This pullout is a result of PROGRESS in Iraq, and has nothing to do with pressure from any side to make it happen!

Beat me to it. It amazes me that the lefties around here want to assume the worst about everything and completely ignore the possibility that maybe... just maybe... we're actually training Iraqis to the work themselves and that maybe... just maybe... they have progressed to the point that we don't need everyone in the coalition anymore.

But that would be progress. And progress is a good thing. And apparently they are allergic to good news.
